Our first home grown Albino

Well...I guess I still can't count this til its hatched but we're almost there.


Last year I bred Chu'si, my 100% Het Albino Female to Kronus, 100% Het Albino Male. Nothing seemed to come of it. During the summer of 2008, I purchased Poko (aka Pokey) my albino male blackback and by the 2009--> 2010 Breeding season he was ready.

I was anticipating a wonderful clutch from Chu'si this year. She had a year off from breeding. She was a proven 100% Het Albino, and she's a big girl as well. Poko had only 2 females to breed with Chu'si being the priority since she is het.

However...when Chu'si laid her clutch she had 7 eggs but only one was fertile. Not 100% sure why this happened, and I've searched for the reason, but none of the usual reasons really matched.

Awww... While it would suck to have to pay that for an Albino Beeper, I sure wish I could earn that type of money with them. At this point honestly I'm not sure if he/she will be up for sale. If it's a boy, we'll be selling him. If it's a girl, I'm not sure at this point.

May 11 is the actual 'hatch' date of this new lil one though you can definitely say the lil tyke was flirting with it for several days. I peeked in last night around 830 or so and found this :

lol Shaun....I'm glad that this lil wee thing is making other people smile...I've waited for the lil one for so long!!!

The peeking didn't start until the 9th for real. So 2 days. Unlike the other clutch that played hide and seek every time I'd open the Inky door, this lil one stayed with the nose peeking out. Pretty much unafraid of the big pink monster!

It really depends on the snake. I had a clutch in 2009 that the entire clutch were little demons from the eggshell. This little one is very calm, and hasn't struck once. Solo (a baby normal hatched about a month ago) is the exact opposite and will throw herself at you out of the rack just to try and attack....I've caught her mid air a few times.

So....just like people it depends :)

I probably should get it on tape but then I'd get the animal rights activists at my door....I'll see what I can do with a sort of cushion underneath so no one screams! lol In any event I do have one of her striking the camera...which was interesting...I'll see if I can put something together this weekend or so :)

As you can tell we sexed the baby and its a girl! She still hasn't shed but is close to it, then we have the wait til she eats... sometimes it seems all you do is wait! lol In any event, she's looking great and healthy!
