Hi, I'm Sara. I'm from Ohio. I'm new to the forum but I've been checking it out for a couple weeks now. You all seem to know a lot about snakes. I was just given my first snake a few months ago (he's an adorable cali king) and now I'm in love with snakes. I want many more. I just really want to learn more about them!

Haha, great analogy Rob. Yes, snakes are very addictive. I started out with one ball python 5 years ago and now I have a nice big collection and am setting up to breed them. May I suggest a carpet python as your next snake? I feel that they are one of the best beginner pythons out there- they are easy to care for, pretty hardy, generally docile, and get large enough to be impressive without getting unmanageable.

some of us go way off the deep end, fill the house with snakes, start a dozen web sites and launch forums.
I was Google searching "obsessed" and my picture popped up ;)

Thanks for such a warm welcome everyone! I guess I'm not too crazy or the only one obsessed. :)
Willow, I will look into the carpet python. I was thinking just another colubrid...been falling in love with the mexican blacks, didn't really think I had enough experience to handle a python.

If you think snakes are bad, never try tarantulas!

Thanks! Wish i could afford a real Diamond, but the prices are to high for me. $600.00 the cheapest i ever seen any, and they didn't last long. I notice Jags of come down in price. I seen them as low as $350.00. That going to be my next carpet. Hopefully next year.

Ok, I had to look up bhb (I'm REALLY new to snakes). It's an awesome website ty! That's cool that you are from ohio. I've found so many people around here that are interested in snakes. Mentioned I had a snake in class today and a few people started pulling out their phones showing me pics of thier snakes.
I need to figure out how to post pics on here.
I checked out pics of your snake. Where did you get him? He's so pretty!

Welcome! Yes, Snakes are definately addictive! i had my first one in December 2009, a Snow Corn, then i got a Hypo the other month, which had escaped for 2 months and recently returned! And now i have a California King on its way next week, and looking at getting a Brazilian rainbow and a Ball Python later this year, and im liking the look of a Irian Jaya Carpet aswell haha, considering 6 months ago i'd hardly handled snake's, i think im pretty much hooked and also might need a bigger house! But yes, i think you've come to the right place, ive had so much help from these good people over the last few months, thanks everyone

Redheadedboa, I actually find pythons and boas easier to work with than colubrids. They rarely musk, and some species are extremely docile- carpets, children's pythons, ball pythons, red-tailed boas. I think if you are doing well with a kingsnake (they tend to be flightier and nippier) you'd have no trouble with a carpet python.

Thanks Willow, I have been looking into carpet pythons. My friend has a redtailed boa that I love (hence the name). Carpet pythons are so beautiful. I think I am going to get a set up ready and look for one I like. I know there are a few breeders around me, so hopefully within the next month or two I can bring home another baby!

I'm not one to want to meet strange men off the internet :) but next time you go you should let me know. Maybe my brother and I could follow you up so I don't get lost. I would love to go!
