A friend of mine keeps these amazing snakes, he sent me these pictures of some of his collection.
Greg has many years experience keeping them, I love looking at them, but could not even contemplate keeping any at this time..

Wow, gorgeous! I really love the temple viper. I think vipers are some of the most beautiful snakes, but I also couldn't imagine keeping them right now....I would get bitten; I know I would. I get bitten by everything I keep..lol.

i have never been bit by anything i own (a few at the pet stores have bitten me before though) but i couldn't risk it yet (young kids) and i think the only reason i haven't been bit is because i got lucky with snakes that have awesome personalities. i would want to own a really mean snake for a few years before i got a hot. those are some awesome vipers

wow they looks very nice, i love pic 3 ,ya like yall said,I wish they were constrictors.
Is it just me, or do pics 1, 3, and 4 look like they're sizing up the cameraman looking for a way to get through the glass?

Glass? Greg opened the front of each cage for the photos.
Does he have to have special pants made to carry around his giant brass balls?

Nah, he's very level headed. I sold him a pair of baby snakes, and it was one time that I was comfortable that they would be well cared for.
But yeah, he's got bigger cahoonas than I do..

Beautifull snakes. Are all vipers Crotalus and bites treated with crofab?

There are many different genus of vipers/pitvipers. Crotalus is rattlesnakes, Pygmy Rattlers are Sistrurus. Crofab is only for this class of venoms.

I have a few "observation only" snakes, but I also have kids.... a bite from a garter or racer is harmless.
No vipers for me anyday soon.

I want a viper now dang it lol
Those are so beautiful :) I love that first one, I`ve seen those before. They have a really devlish look to them with those yellow eyes on a green background. Just absulutley stunning. As people are saying though, stuff that! I have thought about it but not seriously, I just couldn`t kep something that could do such horrible things to me, it`s just not worth it. It`s just horrifying what these things can do to you. I`ve had some really nasty things done to me in hospital after I damaged my spine. Eight hours of surgery and all sorts of horrific things. My point is, if I was in hospital and having to have faciotomys on both arms with my flesh rotting off and my vital organs shutting down, my wife stood over me looking at the mess and wondering if I`m going to live or die, would it be worth it in any way? Would I think "Oh well it IS a beauitful snake!" Good grief no... BUT, Rear fang venomous? A wee little bit of danger? Yeah! Bring it on!! lol I have Western Hogs and a Malagasy Hognose (Not related) and at some point I might up the anti a little and get a False water cobra and/or a Mangrove snake but that is as far as I`ll ever take it. If my cahoenas were of sufficient size though, A Western Diamond Back would be my choice :)

Beautiful snakes. I wouldn't mind having some Atheris hispida's or some Crotalus species. My favorite venomous snakes are the Atheris genus, Crotalus genus, and Bitis genus, especially Bitis gabonica. I seen a Bitis arietans yesterday at the fair and I swear it had to be at least 5 and 1/2 feet long. That was the largest Puff Adder I have ever seen. It rivaled the size of a gabby.

Some sweet looking snakes. Wish they were as nice as ball pythons. Are there any morphs with these guys? How amazing would they look!

Not being rude but if you do not have the training to relocate or deal with venomous snakes you should not attempt or do it. It is not only risky to yourslef but injury to the snake from incorrect techniques could occur quite easily. Ring a professional as its safer and easier. Sorry to derail the thread but needed to get this out.

Well do you feel confident to relocate a venomous snake? I only ask this question as i feel that this task should be left to a professional not someone who has no/next to no experience or training. To me this is where people run into trouble with being far to confident with skills learnt from small/young pythons. Pythons or even colubridae are nothing like venomous species and i mean nothing like them! This behaviour really annoys me.

does every single discussion that involves venomous snakes have to turn into an argument??????
excuse me being naive but the yellow one, what is the scientific name?

Yeah, I don't know of any other snake that looks like that, but there's a ton of snakes I don't know about. Always nice to learn what this or that is and associate a picture/name with it~
It looks like Wetar Island Yellow Pit Viper, same little tail also.

Wow, that is a quick progression to venomous snake keeping. Have you had a lot of experience with venomous snakes before?
The recommended progression would be to have a mentor who shows you all the tricks of the trade and allows you to hep with their snakes for a period of time so that you are less likely to make any sort of error.
Beinterested to hear your story.

The only equipment you need is a secure, locking cage and hook appropriate for the size of the snake. You can use a tall trashcan for a container when cleaning the enclosure. Other than that, it's a snake....waterbowl and UTH.
Please don't be one of these people that tries to hold or 'milk' your snake, it's a great way to be bitten.
All the copperheads I've kept were very placid which can lead to lead folks into a false sense of security with them. Never forget that the snake can put a serious hurting on you!!
