The tree is a 15 foot crabapple. It doesn't get any bigger and i got 12 foot step ladder. The branch i was taking picture from is only 3 feet off the ground. I was a my knees to make it look like they where higher up.

I also had a friend there to help if they try to get away. The only one that try to make a break was my diamond x jungle, and that was in the grass. (didn't get more than 3 feet and i had him) My three carpet and ball seem to really like being in the tree. My borneo just sat there.

Have you guys ever had snakes pick up mites from being outside? I had a mite outbreak shortly after I took some snakes outside two years ago, but I think it might have been from a rescue snake I took in. I was just wondering if anyone thinks mites might be a risk if taking snakes outside to play in the grass and trees?
infernalis
04-18-10, 12:28 PM
I never picked up any mites taking my snakes outside. But then again it's not real common, I took my corn outside once (all those photos are from the same day) the ball python has been outside 4 times in 2 years, They move so slow that there is little risk of your snake getting away.
I'm not adventurous enough to put any of my garter snakes on the ground, they are too fast and can get away quickly.
Will0W783
04-18-10, 12:48 PM
Yeah, garters are quick little buggers. Most colubrids are pretty quick-moving things, except for my file snakes. They just amble along without a care in the world. lol

The one that always scared me the most was Limon... He was arboreal and could have made it interesting trying to recover him from that tree.

To answer the mite question. This was the first time i ever let them go in the grass or tree. I haved them outside before but was always holding them or they were on something up off the ground. I did mist each one down lightly, and wipe them down with paper towels before putting back in their cages as a precaution. To make sure there wasn't anything on them. The outdoor picures are always the coolest IMO. Even if your just holding them. Natural sunlight really makes their cooler pop. So if you have any show them off. Please!

here in New York, we can experience all 4 seasons in one day!
Night time - snow flurries (winter)
early morning - foggy and chilly (spring)
afternoon - hot & humid (summer)
evening - chilly and cloudy (autumn)
One of the few places you run the furnace at night and the air conditioner by day.

I am ready for all the rain to stop. It'll be warm and sunny during day, then rain almost every other night. Elmwood which is about 7 miles from here (farmington) was hit by a tornado 4 or 5 night ago. Took out almost the whole downtown (about 3 blocks). When they sounded the warning siren here i was on my front porch and actually seen it pass here about 2 mile outside of town. Luckly know one was hurt, because most of the town was downtown for their Strawberry Festibal. With all the rain and sun the humidity in my Snakes room stay at 69% to 82%. The room temp been staying between 75 to 89 so i turned all the heatpads off for now. Just flip them on for 4 days after feeding. I feed every 14 days. Anyway can't wait to see some of your guys reptile outdoors. I also got some really good headshots i am going to post in a day or two. P.S. wayne chomper with the boot looks like me after a hard night partying.

im sitting here speechless mate.the power it would take to tip a train like that must be massive.it tipped it over like it was a kids toy.the way it just came from no where makes it very, very scary stuff...!!
although you live in a wonderfull place there are obviously a few dangers you all have to contend with.wolves, bears, tornado's to name but a few.imo i still think it would be worth it though to get to live how you all live.i'm assuming you all have emergency plans set in place.like a safe bunker for tornado's and your 20 guage shot gun for scary wildlife.that clip just reminds you how powerfull good old mother nature can be.mindblowing stuff...!!
cheers shaun

Where I live we never see tornado's, there are too many mountains and hills to allow a tornado to form.
Their is a portion of the Midwest called "Tornado ally" that has NO hills, so Tornado's are a regular occurrence.

06-10-10, 09:29 AM
Dorothy (my sweetie) moved here from Toledo, we got a call from her brother Monday, the place got hit bad.
An f4 went through just south of here about 5 years ago.
About 9 years ago, I physically got hit by a tornado. It touched down about 2/3 of a mile away and went right over the house while I was in it. No warning, just FOOM! I was on the second floor, it was like trying to walk in a earthquake.
About 18 years ago a tornado too the trailer next door (twisted the frame into a helix), the barn across the road, and then tore right through the back yard.
Now I live in town, and I feel safer. I know I'm not safer, I'm just as likely to be hit by a tornado whether I live in town, or live in the country, but the ape inside my subconscious believes in safety in numbers.

06-10-10, 06:54 PM
I am not sure. Think it was a different one.Just found out it was the same one. After Elmwood it touch down in Streator IL, then again in Toledo. It was one bad as- storm front did all kinds of damage at one point there were siting of 3 different tornados in a 8 mile area.

Sad thing is he is a 15$ reptile store find with tank, accessories and a free mouse cost us a total of 40$ so I have no clue his lineage. I of course want him to be het xxxx but as far as I know and was told, he is normal and came with his feeding and shed history...
I really love his patterns and coloring but, his attitude is the my favorite.

The pink is the snakes blood. The lack of pigment makes them kinda transparent.

I will totally get some pictures of my Bearded, KyJinn, ASAP out and about. He enjoys his time outside, really stimulates his appetite as well. Its always fun to watch him scuttle around and he loves for me to chase him. Will come running up to my feet only to turn right around and run away. He will do this over and over again until I begin to follow/chase him. Such a character.
So yeah pics coming soon.
