I have a tank that is 6 ft long, 14 inches deep, and about 2 ft tall and was wondering if this would be big enough for an adult carpet? I looked up all the dimensions I could find and could not find anything about this size so I thought I would ask here. The tank is just sitting empty and I have been looking at getting a carpet python. I obviously will not put a baby in this tank right away but I like to have my plans ahead of time.

That sounds like a generous enclosure...but what do I know ;)

Lol, ya right Wayne. I know it is tall enough and long enough but my concern is that it would not be deep enough. Being as they are mostly arboreal would that make the depth less of a problem?

i dont think 2 feet is tall enouph for an arborial snake. i would say 4 feet min.

When i used to keep a few coastals , they all had a 6 foot high x 4 foot wide x 3 foot deep./ They absolutely loved the height and were always cruising up and down their perches.

Ya thats kinda what I thought. Stupid thing is just situated wrong, lol. This is the tank that my adult sav monitor came in, not good at all, so I am just trying to find something cool that I can use it for. Any ideas?
P.S. I kinda got my wording mixed up there in my last post.

It depends on what sort of snake you wanna keep, small species would be the best. You would have a huge range of snakes at your end of the globe eg corns, kings, hognose, but being so slim i would divide it and keep gecko's or frogs. You could always pull the back out and the floor and make it bigger, put a hinged door on the front. Then you will have a great 6 foot tall tank.

it should be ok for a carpet mate.the smallest tank i use for adult carpets is 4ft legnth x 2ft high x 2ft deep.my diamond will eventually get a slightly bigger one if she reaches the 8 to 9 feet mark.i hope to make her a 6ft length x 4ft high x 2ft deep tank.i was always told by mates who have been herping longer than me that a 3x2x2 is the smallest size to use and a 4x2x2 is ample.i tend to go by the size of the individual snake.if i had say a 10ft coastal i'd try to give it a slightly larger set up.i had a big jungle once that no matter how big a tank i gave him he just used the cool end to curl up in all day long.he would only climb up on a branch for 24 to 48 hours after a meal.he would let the bulge in his stomach hang down off the branch.after a couple of days at most he would then go back down to his favorite corner till next feed.
cheers shaun
