found this good looking Milk Snake in the back yard, He has been hanging around for a few days now, looks as if a shed is immanent.
I picked him up and handled him last week and he was rather calm for a wild milk. No bites no musk..

Looks like one of the to dead snakes we found at the park Sunday. Some kid kill both of them trying to say "they're cottonmouths". The other was a water snake. Neither look like a cottonmouth. I ask if he ever seen one he said "no." My 10 year little cousin told the kid "your a f- in **** head. The snakes weren't bothering any one. You kill them for no reason. How you like it if i hit you in the head with a rock for no good reason." I must say i was proud of her. Her mom wasn't to happy with her talking like that, but let it slide. She said can't blame her for being up set.

Your 10 year old cousin is wise beyond her years ;)
She want to be a vet when she gets older. Big time animal lover. My oldest daughter (Lana) use to want to be a vet. Then she realized she don't like the sight of blood. Be cool if Skyler (cousin) became one save me on vet bills. Of coarse i have had to take a snake to a vet in years. Guess that means i am doing something right.

saw 4 snakes all hiding in the same spot today....
http://www.reptard.info/521/all4.jpg
This little garter snake was so funny, he kept leaving and then coming back, curious little fella! he scooted off 4 times and always returned within a minute or two.

This milk snake had the nicest caramel colouring to it, I handled it long enough to take it to the house and show to my family, and only got bit once.
I returned it safely to the hiding spot. (hope to see this one again some day.)

This one was all attitude, kept striking out, so I left that one alone.

wow there must be absolutely no snakes around my area I never find any ever and I am outside all the time. We supposedly have a 6ft huge black rat around the house everyone in my family sees him a couple times a year but I have yet to see him.

I am very lucky, Our property is swarming with Garter snakes, brown snakes, redbellies, milks and water snakes.
Sometimes there are 4-6 hiding in the same spot at the same time.
There is some smooth greens and black rats, but they are much harder to spot.

There is a BIG black rat near my parents home about 70 miles south of here. I'll say he is at least 5ft but possibly larger. I have managed to spot him the past three years in a row and last year I got him on a tree branch which he was not too happy about. Hopefully I can spot him this year and snap a pic.

Last summer I almost stepped on a black rat that was at least that big.
It was soaking in a puddle when I was looking for tadpoles, when that snake freaked out and took off it got me wet and freaked me out too.
There was a few people fishing at the pond just a few feet away, they were calling me crazy because I ran as fast as I could-----chasing the snake :)
I wanted to catch it if even for a minute.
I was here when that happened....

lucky - nice
the only snakes infesting my house are my snakes. I did many years ago find a batch of hatchlings. I thought they were brown house snakes which were very common in the area at the time but when I took one to school for the biology class I was politely informed that they were Ringkals (Hemachatus haemachatus) a elapid snake closely related to the true cobras and a snake that can rear up like a cobra and "spit" its venom at its attacker. but they were so cute.
and to think one got away and lived in our house for 5 days before we found it again. I think you guys are privileged to live in areas where you can see those beautiful snakes in the wild

That's one reason why I love this place so much. Herps everywhere.
me and my cousin always used to go catch snakes and bring 'em home (mom wasnt always happy bout it though) we found Black rats, Milks, Garters, and for a while i had a wild baby ring neck as a pet, i loved how he would show off his orange belly. But i let him go after a month. but i recently moved to SC and im kinda nervous about goin to look for snakes cause people are always telling me about how they saw copper heads and stuff so its made me be a bit hesitant.

Easy to fix.
Learn to identify species on sight.
Use a hook on a pole to flip things over, not your hands.
wear good boots that cover your ankle / lower leg
Take a camera, leave the snakes undisturbed, snap a photo and you're all set.

Take only pictures - leave only footprints - cant go wrong with that!
yea well if i find anything ill be sure to upload some new pics!

Easy. Copperheads look like a bunch of leaves wrapped into a squashed cylinder haha. Definitely use a stick or a snake hook, though some places don't allow snake hooks.
