Humidity for Chondros

Question I was reading in this book that I got on Chondros its called " The More Complete Chondro" and well he said he only misted his snakes enclosures once a day, maybe two times. He did it by hand too. So my question how many times do you guys misted your snakes enclosures . And do you do it by hand or do you use a fogger or whatever you can use. Thanks

Well, I have to admit that I got a little lazy and got a fogger that is connect to a monitor that turns it on when the enclosure requires more humidity. I always worried that the fluctuation was hard on the geckos when I did it by hand.

all my chondro keeping mates do it by hand.once or twice a day.they dont seem to trust mechanical misters for some reason ?

I have mine hooked up to a MistKing system that mists them 3 times a day.

Yeah seems I have heard the same thing shaun. This guy said he had so many problems that he just gave up and now is doing it by hand

It depends on what kind of system you have. We spent over $200 on ours and as long as we don't forget to refill the reservoir (it's a 5-gallon bucket so it holds a lot) we have no problems. Mist King makes some very nice systems, but they are overkill unless you have a lot of cages to be misting, which I do.
For one chondro, a fogger is fine or hand-misting 2-3 times a day. It's really misleading that they need near 100% humidity constantly- they don't and in fact constant damp will lead to repiratory problems and fungal infections. You want your morning misting to get the humidity up to 70-80% with a gradual drying-out period over the day to 40-50%. An evening misting will get it back up with a drying-out period over night. It's very important to allow the drying-out overnight, as in their natural environment it cools off at night and cooler air holds less humidity, so they experience a drop at night.

proper humidity within any enclosure can be achieved as long as you find the right balance between cage ventilation and the amount of moisture you introduce. maintaining humidity for green trees is just as easy as it is for any other snake. i probably mist my chondros 2-3 times a week if that.

Julian, what kind of enclosures do you have your GTPs in? I've heard..(seen?)..you mention that before and I'm curious!

Some people use Exo Terra enclosures. I think if I am getting one I am going to build one. The guy who wrote this book on his website he tells you how he made his and I might do that if I get one

i mist my BRB by hand usually and have a misting system i made just for the weekends that im not home, i have an exo-terra 36x18x18 so i need to cover the top with some cling film and some shelving wood. i have a little bit left open for a bit of air circulation but i would not suggest an exo-terra for any tropical animal unless youre willing to buy plexiglass or whatever to cover up the top with since they dont make solid tops to my knowledge. works fine for me i guess lol hygro stays between 80-90% and i mist 1-2 times daily. hope this helps!

If you go here this guy really is great help with building snake enclosures. You could build this enclosure with any snake. This guy really knows what he is doing.

i have had a brief look at grieg maxwells book,some beautifull chondros pictured in it.over here its pretty much the chondro bible.he has some stunning chondros hillary dont he ? hes also a very helpfull guy,my mate e mailed him about a breeding question and grieg e mailed him back the next day.so even though he is one of the most successfull chondro breeders on the planet he still takes the time to help folk out.

Jess, i use a few vision knock off enclosures that are made of some kind of plastic with glass sliding front doors and mostly covered ventilation. i also use a couple custom wooden enclosures with adjustable ventilation and glass sliding doors. finally i use a few really nice tubs with customized ventilation and top opening lids. all of these enclosures are heated with radiant heat panels and use newspaper as substrate.

I am lusting after a Greg Maxwell GTP too- I want something of Ella Diablo's line. But that is a long way off- his animals are very expensive. Worth it, but expensive. On another note, my Mystique is turning very blue and off feed and swelling slightly- I'm hoping she's developing follicles!! :)
