View Full Version : Pinstripe surprise
I`ve wanted this little guy for ages and today, my wife and I thought we`d just go and buy him ! A very very nice surprise! :) Here he is, I haven`t thought of a name for him yet. He`s got two lovely females to look forward to when he`s older, I wish I could have two ! lol

cheers shaun
Cheers :) I`m so pleased with him :) Yep, we`ll get a thousand grams or so on him and then see what he can do.... Actually, I`m not sure what he would produce mated with a normal female, can anyone tell me?

Sweet pin. Best of luck when he's big enough to breed.
Thanks guys :) Ah right, pin stripes and normals, that`s cool, I just cannot wait to see what he can produce ! I`ll have to wait though lol a year or two I expect, unless males can be bred earlier than females which I suppose they could. I suppose the amount of Pinstripes in any given clutch is pot luck? Or is there an expected amount of them? If you catch my drift..... :D

I'm leaning toward het (for pin) normals but what do I know.
Very nice snake.
Mmmm.... We`ll see I suppose, they did think in the shop that i`d get some lookers :) I`m just over the moon to have him :) That`s two new fantastic snakes in as many weeks ! This one was even my wifes idea ! lol

Very nice snake.
The pinstripe mutation in ball pythons is a dominant gene. You won't get any hets from breeding him to a normal. You'll either get visuals (pinstripes) or normals. The usual chances are 50% for each egg, one way or the other.

I wasn't sure if it was a recessive or not.
Nice :) I can`t wait to see some babies.....

i have limited knowledge of royals (ball pythons) but this might help.i dug it out a morph book i have.
chocolate pinstripe - pinstripe x chocolate
kingpin -pinstripe x lesser platinum
lemon blast - pinstripe x lemon pastel
pinstripe hypo's - pinstripe x hypo
spinner ball - pinstripe x spider
spinner blast - pinstripe x spider x pastel
pinstripe balls are considered dominant with no super form.
as said my knowledge is very limited but there are plenty successfull ball guys on this forum.i'm sure they can get into it on a much higher level with you mate.
cheers shaun
You forgot the SuperBlast (super pastel pinstripe):
This guy is now over 1200g and breeding up a storm over here.

cheers shaun
Cor how cool would it be to come up with something new eh !? I`ll be chuffed to tiny kibbles and bits if I can ever produce something as beautiful as that Mykee :)

I think there will be hets in there with the normals and pins. Im not completely sure what the percentage is for a clutch. There will be someone here that knows for sure, but i would assume 33% chance for each although its impossible to tell which are hets with out expensive tests. I do believe you will spend many years line breeding to find out the exact results of that pairing

Are you joking, or do you truly believe that?
Expensive tests.....LOL!!!
Thanks guys, I really love his colouring and he only seems to get brighter with age.

I said im not entirely sure on this matter mykee, as i truely only like the natural colours and variations found in the wild and have not got into this part of the hobby yet. I was just relaying what i have been told about this subject, i am proberly wrong but thats what i was told. Im sorry if i have added worthless and pointless information. You guys are so much further down the line than we are here with this, we are many many years behind.
Im glad you feel better laughing at my stupidity for contributing. I am however interested how you would tell the norms from the hets just by visualisation, as i have seen hets looking completely normal, showing no signs or traits in the markings at all.
Good luck with your snakes too feebo as i said you will produce some absolute stunners, im very jealous.
"I am however interested how you would tell the norms from the hets just by visualisation, as i have seen hets looking completely normal, showing no signs or traits in the markings at all."
Exactly. Hets look exactly like normals.
You can only produce heterozygous animals from a recessive breeding, they are not the result of a co-dominant or dominant breeding.

Cheers for clearing that up
That might be a good idea for another thread, I`d really like to understand the whole genetics thing a lot better than I do :)
