View Full Version : Hello Snake Forum
I found this forum through google. A sad post about the snake I am researching popped up (RIP Limon).
I have been working with reptiles for about 25 years and I saw a snake I had never seen before at my local place, Giant Chinese Green Snake (Cyclophiops major) was the snake. I am hooked. The animal was easy going, and calm despite being a WC snake.
So I came here to pick all your brains for care info on Giant Chinese Green Snake (Cyclophiops major).
So before I ramble forever. I have a few pet snakes at the moment, a Brazilian Rainbow Boa, and a Red Tail Boa of an unknown species/local/morph. Mostly I work with breeding various species of geckos and lizards.
Thanks for reading :)

Welcome to the forum.
Thanks for your kind words about Limon, he was very special to me.
When I first got him, I knew absolutely nothing about him, we learned from each other.
First things first, ALL specimens are wild caught animals, therefore the first steps to success are to....
1. Check your animal over carefully for snake mites upon arrival, do not introduce into a collection right away.
2. get a stool sample to your local herp vet for parasite testing.
3. they are mostly arboreal, so a tall cage with a tree or fake vines is essential if you want your snake to thrive!!! (Very very important)
4. their natural habitat is Asian rain forest, so they require some good humidity, I misted my cage daily, and it has very little airflow, enough to keep the air from going stale, but NO screen (I drilled small holes in the wood, other than that it was almost sealed)
5. The only food item I could ever get mine to eat was the common night crawler, Limon would eat from 2-4 large night crawlers DAILY.
Insects and pinkie mice were a waste of time, even scented, he would not even touch them.
6. Keep the cage a uniform 85-95 degrees, DO NOT USE A BASKING LAMP!! your snake will wrap around the bulb and get severely burned!!!!!!
I used a large heat rock on the bottom of the cage buried in soil to keep the cage warm, UTH would be ideal also.
7. for our cage I used a 12 volt LED lamp, it illuminated the cage well, produced no heat and could never shock my snake with electricity.
8. Keep the water bowl changed and filled with fresh water at all times.
9. repti bark or clean earth soil are the most ideal substrates to use, aspen or coconut fiber will stick to the worms and get ingested by your snake.
10. this species is very tolerant of handling ,at least mine was, there may be exceptions.
Feel free to contact me at any time, send me a PM and I will give you my phone numbers if needed.

Thanks for the welcomes :)
Infernalis thank you for the extra information :) I am trying to compile enough info to start breeding these guys. I think we need more CBB animals in the hobby. The more research the more I am sure I can breed them. They live in the same areas as another reptile I love, the flying gecko. I have been breeding flying geckos for a few years now with great success.
The green snake project is a year or so off at least, I need to get cages, plant them and have everything going before getting, rehabbing and pampering the snakes.
Is there a reliable person who sells them anywhere? I hate dealing with most importers.

Infernalis,
Thank you for the extra information. I really hope I can get this wonderful snake to breed in captivity. I wondering if you knew if anyone tried to feed slugs?

He turned them down.
When we first got Limon, no one on the planet could tell me what this species ate, I tried every know food item one could imagine, and big juicy night crawlers were all he would eat.
Miss Information said feed crickets, yeah right, he ignored them.
Worms are an excellent source of proteins, so we just sprinkled a little repti cal (calcium supplement) on his worms once a week.
And I have not "met" anyone else who kept one alive for more than a few weeks. :(
