Here she is then, I`ve been meaning to do this for ages. This is Cirano my Brazilian Rainbow Boa. Her strength is just plain scary, she can totally cut off the blood supply to my arm with her vice like grip, just goes to show how careful you need to be with bigger Boas. She`s a big `un too, just over eight feet ! She can put three to four feet of her body out straight when I`m holding her, it`s incredible. I really do love these guys, when my male is all grown up, I`ll be breeding him with her, I can`t wait....

How do you measure her? An eight foot rainbow boa would be close to a record I think.

She was eight foot two inches last time I measured her and that was about a month ago. I lay out her shed skins and measure those. She is huge for a Rainbow Boa, I`ve never seen a bigger one. She may well be a record breaker...... :)

She certainly is a beautiful animal. To my knowledge though, measuring the sheds isn't an accurate method. Only due to the fact that they usually stretch. There is a program somewhere online, I can't remember the name, where you take a pic of the snake from a birds eye view coiled up. It then marks down the back of the snake and gives you the length. There's also the string method, where you take a piece of string and line it along the back of the snake.

Measuring the shed is not accurate. I have had my male jungle give me 9 ft sheds. He is less than 6 ft.

I thought you`d say that... lol In my snake room, I have two sets of four foot tanks which are side by side giving me an accurate eight foot of tank. The only way Cirano can be straightened out is to let her go back into her enclosure on her own and then straighten her back end out. She straightens out as long as my eight foot of tanks. She is an eight footer, I know what an eight foot snake looks like lol I assure you, I am not mistaken, Cirano is just over eight feet, which I`m aware, is huge for a Rainbow Boa. :)
I can`t recommend them enough Marvelfreak, they`re such a beautiful snake. :)

I wish I`d have bought a larger male now. The male, "Jaffa" is ooooh about two feet or so now, I have a photo of him actually hang on....

That photo was taken shortly after I bought him. He`s even more beautiful than Cirano! But yeah... It`ll be some considerable time before I can breed them. Still, too late now, I`ll just have to wait :) He`s just about ready for a bigger tank and they do tend to put the weight on once they can take bigger food don`t they ! Hopefully it won`t be too long. If I had the room I`d get another male but I haven`t, not for another "wet" snake anyway. Yep, a very very beautiful species.....

I had one once before. I had it and a jungle carpet for about 3 months. Them along with a yellow anaconda were stolen while i was out of town for the weekend. Till this day i think it was the guy a bought anaconda off of. I plan on getting BRB in April or May. Can't wait!

Cheers, she really friendly too, not nervous at all. The only thing that makes her a little difficult to handle is her strength, she is just immensley strong!

people who do things like this make me sick with rage, they are nothing short of being complete scumbags.makes it all the worse it might be a fellow snake keeper.there was a guy on a uk forum just before xmas trying to track down £28,000 of high end boa's.they were stolen from his custom made snake house in his garden.poor guy took a lifetime to build his collection, then some scumbag goes and does that.sorry for ranting but it really gets to me that people can be like that.

feebo thats one monster of a brb.definately the biggest ive seen and pretty with it.
cheers shaun

Cheers :) I cleaned her out the other day so I had to put her in a four foot spare tank for ten minutes, she hardly fitted in there ! lol I bet she`ll produce a big clutch when I breed her with Jaffa :)

I do believe by measuring length of a shed is false as i have read a tested this and on average your snakes are about 17% longer from the streching when shedding. The best way of measuring is using the program herpmeasure, you can download it for free. All you have to do is get your snake flat and a ruler next to it in a photo, then calibrate the program for an exact length.
Lovely female and great male you will produe some absolute stunners with that pairing.
Best of luck in the coming years

I`ve not bred them yet EmseeKAY and I won`t be for a couple of years so I haven`t looked into it at all yet. Going on my general knowledge of snakes I`d say you`d want a good weight, nice and stocky and at least five feet for the female, four for the male. I`m going to have to look it up now and see if I`m even close with that lol :D

Yep, I`m about right with that :)
