well the other day i opened the cage and he jet out of his hiding box i had no gloves, ran out into the living room and tried to escape out the window from the couch i grabbed his he turned bit me spilled out, ran back across the floor i got him again and he bit me again he then deficated all over the floor as i carries it back to the cage ... Its smelt so rancid i cant describe it , now hes sees me as a preditor once again but now hes pissed at me as well, hisses tail whipes the glass when i get close to the cage and yesterday i took him out cleared his cage srubbed down everything and set it back up because i noticed it started smelling MUCH worse than ever, last night it was so bad it made me feel sick had to air out the house at 2 am. do they do this because they are scared cant find any threads saying it but i remember years ago when i first got my dwarf albino retic she would get nervous from time to time and pee on people and it was very smelly not like her regular stuff which she stopped doing a long long time ago now shes like a big kitten. well back to the start with my little friend, had such good progression 2 , oh and she is still fine with the other memebers of my house going by its cage ie my ferret dogs and the others that live here just seems to hate me atm, a lizard smart enouph to hold a grudge if i didnt see it i would not believe it.

its a common nile monitor
My neighbor was over here today and he was saying they do have a scent gland like like a ferret that can be removed to kill the smell, im not sure if this is true but im activly looking for info online if i dont find any im going to call my exotic vet i bring my snake 2 and she will know for sure so i will post what i know about it for you all to read unless someone else reads this and can shed some light on the smell its giving off :)

sounds to me like it regurgitated as well as defecated i'm not sure what you're expecting from a nile because they usually tend to be fairly defensive and yes monitors will often defecate as well as regurgitate when they're really agitated no they don't have any sort of scent glands like a ferret maybe your neighbour was thinking of ferrets they're kind of like a monitor because they have a long body and short legs but they're a mammal just like we're a mammal did you know that dolphins are mammals too and so are bats i know someone that thought they laid eggs lol i once had a ferret when i was younger but i don't have it any more but it would have been dead by now anyway because i'm like a hundred years old so i have monitors instead say you know this typing without punctuation is kinda neat but it must drive you people reading it mad because it's like a flow of consciousness or something anyway i've gone off topic a bit so what i suggest perhaps is that you leave it alone and just let it get used to you for a while and don't try to handle it i'm talking about the nile of course not your ferret but you don't have ferrets anyway that was just your neighbour making suggestions anyway don't take it to a vet because they may charge you for removing the scent glands and then discover that they don't have any oh one more thing here's some punctuation for anyone that has read this far to cut and paste wherever you think it would fit .,;:'.....,.,.,.;.;.,;.,;.'.;,;.'.;,.l;'!!?

Punctuation. Try it. It works.

hehe you type like I do :P
i do have a ferret very funny but dirty little thing i wont get rid of it but i would never get another one i tell you that lol.
ya i checked for a few hours last night and i didnt come up with anything about a nile with scent glands either. my vet would have told me over the phone anyways but im sure your right so im not going to bother her, it was not throw up it was urine for sure i spot clear the cage daily and it had my hand in its mouth when it went on the floor :P.
last night he was scratching for like an hour at the cage so i put my gloves on and sweated and got it out, it was scared hissing non stop but i have been leaving it alnoe for about a week now with no improvment so i had to do somthing different, i held him for about 20 as be barried his head in my armpit of my sweater then he calmed right down and came out and seem fine now, i let him walk around the house for about an hour as he explored everything and he completly stopped hissing and tensing up, today hes chilling under his heat light i walked up he just opened his eye and closed them and went back to sleep i opened the cage and he went to the back a little nervous i put down a plate of food and he came right out and started eating in as i stood there like nothing ever happened lol weird eh i think he just seen me as being a preditor after the tramatic accident and now he realizes im no threat again. im sure these are the reasons it says expert level skill for caring for niles.

no they don't have any sort of scent glands like a ferret maybe your neighbour was thinking of ferrets they're kind of like a monitor because they have a long body and short legs but they're a mammal just like we're a mammal did you know that dolphins are mammals too and so are bats i know someone that thought they laid eggs lol i once had a ferret when i was younger but i don't have it any more but it would have been dead by now anyway because i'm like a hundred years old so i have monitors instead
