My fiance and I were messing around with the camera the other night, and got a few good shots of Esmeralda, my ETB. She is such a sweetheart, tamer than my BPs, and seems to eat up attention (although I know their brains don't work that way...). Anyway, enjoy!

She does have some big lips- also monstrous teeth! I've seen those choppers when she yawns after eating, and man am I glad she is so friendly!

I can imagine--with your hand right there where she could easily grab you, it's really good she doesn't! She's beautiful, Kimberly!

Thanks Sandy! My little brother came to visit me this weekend, and he was taken with her. He generally is not much of a snake person, but spent lots of time holding Esme, and she was eating up all the attention. She loves to perch on shoulders...lol.

Beautiful ETB Kim, I love the little blue specks on her head.

She just shed about a week before the pics. After a shed she has a lot of iridescence on her. She's also little miss piggy- she chowed down two rat weanlings for me this past Sunday. She will beg and beg shamelessly when she wants more..lol.

Emerald tree boas are very beautiful, but I think I prefer green tree pythons. This is pretty much based on their appearance as I've never owned either, whats your opinion Kim?

I own both and I love both. I have a female GTP who looks like a Sorong type, but not sure of her lineage. She is handleable, but not in the evening or when she smells food. She's perpetually hungry..lol. I also have a male Biak GTP who is the biggest sweetie. He's docile no matter what time of day or night you attempt to pick him up. When he arrived he had an oral abscess from swallowing a tooth, so his first experiences with me were me sticking him with antibiotics and soaking him every night...and he still doesnt' bite...lol.
My Esmeralda is the calmest of my arboreals though. I know you'll probably never hear anyone else say this, but I trust her more than I trust my ball pythons. She's never startled, hissed, or shown any sign of aggression to anyone, and everyone who sees her wants to hold her, pet her, and fawn all over her. And she just seems to eat it all up..lol. She eats well, sheds well, has been healthy since I got her (knock on wood), and is stunning.
I honestly think you can't go wrong either way. ETBs are less common, but you can find hand tame ones if you look hard enough. Hand tame GTPs tend to be more common, and they tend to be a bit hardier.
I like both of their appearances. Honestly before I got any of them I preferred the GTP face. I really wanted a GTP but found Esme on Fauna and got her instead. A few months later I got Mystique, my female GTP. I got Archimedes, the male, in September. Mystique is not the prettiest GTP by far- she has quite a small head and a rather pointy nose. But she has nice blue accents and the blue line down her back and yellow eyes with red crosshairs. She's a neat girl and a good snake. Archimedes is absolutely amazing- he has deep golden eyes that look like they go on forever, and a tall nose with huge nostrils and heat pits. He's gorgeous!
Honestly, I think if you were able to interact with an emerald and really get a look at its face, you'd like them just as much. It's a whole different look, but just as cool in its own right. Esmeralda also has golden eyes, very metallic, and the lips full of heat pits is really cool- she looks so fierce and primal, but she's such a doll. She's my pride and joy- my little gem.
So I guess in conclusion, I couldn't say which one I like better. Get one of each!

Well, my recent suspicions turned out to be right- "Esmeralda" is actually a male. I will have to rename him now. Any suggestions?

Emerald?? I know a guy named Emerald, and it's close to Esmeralda but not so feminine.

Hmmm....maybe. Nothing has really hit me yet. I'll figure something out; poor guy, I've been emasculating him by calling him Esmeralda all this time, and telling him he was a pretty girl..lmao. Surprised he didn't bite my face off....rotfl.
He's a great snake- the friendliest snake ever! I did get myself two females; one very large, heavy gal and a little one that I will grow up. Jade, the smaller female, is in her own thread, and I don't have any pics of the big girl yet!

I doubt your calling him Esmeralda has had much effect on his sense of masculinity, Kim! ;) Nice to hear he has such an easy-going personality.

Looking forward to the pics!

Beautful snake. Now you need to give the poor guy a extra manly name.:) Something like The Green Assasin.lol

Lol. He's too sweet of a snake for a mean name though. When I had him at the show on Saturday for my friend Mike to properly probe him, he was hiding his head in my armpit as Mike probed him...lol. He then cuddled into my arms and just relaxed in my arms and everyone was shocked I could just hold him like that..lol. He's my buddy.

maybe something mystical-sounding? My other male is Magik, and the emeralds are such a mysterious, exotic-looking snake.
