I just had the fortune of getting an '08 pair of CBB mandarin rat snakes- they are soo cute and curious. I love their crazy markings- can't wait for these to grow up for me! I named the girl Mei Li which means "beautiful one" and the male Shen-Han, which means "Rich Spirit." Mei Li has a broken yellow V on her head with a little dot in the center while Han has al solid V's on his head. Enjoy!

BTW, they're only being housed together temporarily, until they come out of quarantine and can permanently go into my snake room.
Man, I love the colouring on these snakes. So vibrant and cool. Definatley something I've had my eye on for a while, but probably a speices I won't end up getting for some time. For now, I will live through you :) So keep me updated ;) hahaha

Well they are beautiful little snakes. Good job on that grab.
I have a question though. Why would you quarantine animals together? Granted they came from the same breeder but what if one has a problem, then you have to figure out which one it is and in the mean time it can be passed to the other and it could go back and forth. I would recommend to keep them seperated. At the very least, so one doesn't end up eating the other.

True, that's a good point, Aaron. I will go ahead and separate them. I guess I just figured since they were a pair from the same breeder, it would be ok.

I understand your reasoning and I buy multiple animals at the same time from the same breeder. Each one gets their own enclosure and own space. Not only for looking after them, but because it's less stress and I have yet to have any babies really hold out on first feedings.

Hey Aaron, why is it that one snake would eat another? I know if they were hungry they might do something like that but are they territorial even in a new cage?
You know what I mean? It's a new cage, so it's not like they've made territories. What would cause one to eat another?

It's hunger mostly. I've seen snakes just get very aggressive and strike at anything and then hit one of their cagemates and proceed to consume them. This was in a pet store. Maybe this snake was hungry or maybe it's hunger was triggered when it 'caught' something.

They're not terribly common. That was part of the allure for me- beautiful, tame, and not something you see every day. I absolutely love colorful snakes, and these guys just look unreal! They're quite curious too which is nice. I can't wait for them to grow a bit bigger so they will be less squirmy and fast..lol. Definitely something I'd recommend for anyone who can get them.

Kimberly, those are gorgeous snakes! I'm envious!
Enjoy them--hope to hear that you're producing babies at some point in the future.

Those are the cutest little snakes I have ever seen. Congrats. Honestly Willow it seems every month you find some great deal on some awesome snake(s), how big is your collection now?

LOl....big enough! I am trying to sell a few that I'm not going to be breeding. I really wasn't planning on the mandarins, but I couldn't turn them down when the guy accepted my offer. I'd made an offer on Craigslist back in August, but it was lower than he wanted (at the time I didn't know what they usually went for and had never seen them before). I was so thrilled when he emailed me and said he still had them and was I still interested for my offered price. I have around 30 snakes in my collection right now, most of which are young ones that I am enjoying watching them grow! Nothing cuter than baby BPs and mandarins! :)
