Just wondering....I have had 2 cresties for about 8 months....and have been giving them crickets and the Repashy diet mix...I'm wondering how thin to make the Repashy diet...I've tried mixing it up as it says on the directions, but it always separates and within an hour it looks like all of the powder has settled to the bottom and is mostly water on top. Am I doing something wrong? Should I be mixing it thicker???? I never see my cresties actually eating the stuff. If I dip my finger in it, they will occasionally lick some off...I have the Repashy diet in very small deli cups that fit into those magnetized holders that sit up off the ground (on the side of the enclosure). They seem to be thriving...but I still worry about whether they are getting enough nutrients (I dust the crickets with calcium too).

Which diet specifically are you using? Is it in a bottle, or is it in foil pouches? Do you use the one part mix, or the two part mix with base and flavour?
I don't really follow the mixing directions...the bottle says 2 parts water to 1 part powder, I use about half and half. You want it to be about applesauce consistency, maybe a little thinner. How do you mix it?
The formula has recently been changed to make it more appealing to geckos, one of the things changed was that they added a gelling agent to thicken it up. You might have older diet without the gelling agent in it. This is still fine, just a bit more annoying, lol.
Also, if the diet is so liquidy right now, it will be very hard to tell if the geckos are eating it unless you actually see them chowing down. If they take a couple licks you won't be able to notice. I find most of my geckos like it better thicker though. I usually leave the CGD in the tank for 2 nights.

I'm using the Repashy Crested Gecko diet in the bottle....so maybe I have the older version of it before they added the thickener??? How much should I be offering to one gecko (ie. how much should I be mixing up...there seems to be a lot of waste)?? Thanks!:)

Hm I can't edit for some reason. I forgot to add that warm water seems to help it mix better.

The warm water is a good idea to try....I forgot to mention that the mix is the one step mix....

How old are your geckos? I'd say I give about teaspoon to an adult, maybe a bit more...sometimes it all gets eaten and sometimes a lot goes to waste. I have a ridiculous amount of CGD so this isn't a huge issue for me. Get to know your geckos and how much they like to eat; if they are leaving a lot, all the time, you are feeding too much; if they clear their plate every time, you are likely feeding too little.

Thanks for the great advice :0)...one of my geckos is about 8 months old, the other a year old. What do you use to put the food in/on?
I'm thinking that maybe the little cups I'm using are too deep for them to get into easily?? Maybe I should be putting the food on something flatter? Any thoughts? Thanks!

I love these for feeding; disposable, cheap and easy:

I have about 10 geckos to feed though so washing dishes for them every night gets old. When I had less, I used the smallest terra cotta dishes from Dollarama, 4 for $1. Like these:

The dishes I use are very shallow. Remember that anything from the dollar store needs to be washed thoroughly before using.

The older stuff that is in the bottle I dont think has the new thickening agent in it
I too never follow directions
I mix it until it looks right to me

you can also try using a hand blender or a whisk to get it mixed up really well, that also helps to prevent it from separating so quickly

That's a good idea..I have a small whisk thing I could try....I bought some of the Repashy mix at a Reptile show...in a package....and haven't tried it yet...I was finishing up the stuff I had in the bottles....so I'll try the packaged version and see if it's different. Hopefully it is :0). Thanks!
