I am going to try the NIX method of getting rid of mites. My only problem is that I could not find the 56g(59ml) bottle of it. So I bought the 236ml bottle of it and was wondering if I just used half the bottle if that would be ok?

Well you got 4 times the volume of nix so it is not rocket science to figure out how much to use to make up 1 gallon of solution. Half the bottle you got will make the solution twice as strong as 1 regular bottle of nix.

The ratio of water:Nix remains the same whether you have a tablespoon of Nix or a bathtub full...

If you decide to use Nix, don't mix it with any other product (i.e. bleach, some over the counter pet store crap, nothing). Nix and Nix alone.

I don't want to sound rude but this regime makes no sense and it is dangerous to throw random crap in the tank hoping it will get rid of mites (IE flea collar). As Mykee said you only need to use Nix not an arsenal of other ...things. You kept your snakes in pillow cases for the two weeks you were doing this?

no i kept them in plastic tubs,i only put them in the pillow case when i was checking the tub for mites or cleaning it.and i didnt know any better it was my first time with mites.a guy i kno that own snakes for a while now uses a flea collar and it works.but while all this was going on with the tank my babys never was near it.i used the mite spray from the pet store then after let them swim around in the bath tub then sprayed them with nix.i never mixed random things on my snakes just the tank

Still remnants of those chemicals likely mixed with each other, and never mix chemicals, cleaners, meds, etc. Sounds like you were ok this time, but in the future just use the Nix- I have used it on my LARGE collection and on new snakes that I bring in and the stuff works like a charm, every single time. You just take the bottle of Nix and dissolve it in a gallon of distilled water (make sure you use distilled). I found it works best if you have a milkshake shaker cup and pour the Nix in there and add a little of the water and seal it and shake or stir that to dissolve it- because adding the Nix to a full jug of water guarantees an overflow as soon as you try to shake it to dissolve it. Once you get that bit dissolved, pour it slowly into the big jug with the remainder of the water and gently agitate it to mix it. Then just pour it in a spray bottle and spray the tanks, the snakes, and any furniture they have. Make sure you remove all bedding and put down paper towels, preferably with no pattern as it can hide mites and the ink could leech onto the snakes. Spray it all down again, and put the sprayed snake back with no water dish for 24 hours. Then give them the water dish back. Repeat the whole procedure once a week for three weeks. I love it because it's safer for the snakes, smells nice and gets the job done. Don't bother with the other things as they aren't likely to kill the eggs, only Nix will do that.

Well i just got mites in my collection and i sprayed every single animal in my place and i also used a double strength nix mix as carpet shampoo just to be sure as you never know where those mites can hide. I am now bleaching out every single cage i have including the empty ones just in case the mite has laid eggs in empty enclosures. I am also using Diatomaceous earth as a mite drying out agent in between cage stacks .
I read on another forum you can use diatomaceous earth as a completely chemical free mite control . So i figured i would use everything as i hate getting mites and i really do not want to give away mites. So much for being mite free for over 16 years i have always sprayed my animals after shows just because you never know but still it does not matter how careful you are you can still get mites.

I have NIX'd the ones I got from you friday and aside from a couple small water blisters they look good but I will treat them again in a day or so just in case.
Where do you get the diatomaceous earth from???

Feel free to pm me on TARAS since I check there much more often...

"I am now bleaching out every single cage i have including the empty ones just in case the mite has laid eggs in empty enclosures"
Bleach DOES NOT kill mite eggs. Period. Use Nix. Period.
And one more PERIOD to complete the set.

I might also add that there is no single product that will keep mites out of your collection. The only way to do that is quarantining EVERYTHING that comes into your collection and buying from reputatable breeders.
