G.day Guys
My names Matthew, ive just goined this site cause i got my first snake today as a pet, ive been catching snakes for years with my dad in the wild but never actually owned one.
i bought a Antaresia childreni ( Childrens Python ) and thought that i could come on here if i had any queries.

for example. is it normal for a snake that is cold blooded to be laying around in the water bowl at 2am in the morning. cause i dont know about you but that would freeze me to death.

anyways nice to chat to you all.

have a good one.

Hi, welcome to the forum. Children's pythons are neat- I've heard they are popular in Europe like the Ball python is here in the US- is that true? I love them anyway, they are neat little guys. I don't currently have one, but it's a snake I'd like to get some day. As for your quyestion, what are the temperatures in the snake's cage at night? You should have some source of heat to keep it in the 80s (fahrenheit) with a basking spot up into the low 90s (check for sure for Children's as I don't keep them so don't know the exact basking temp for them), but 92-93 is usually good for ball pythons, carpets, burms, retics, etc. At night don't let it get below 75 at the lowest. I usually keep my snake room at 85 ambient during the day with basking spots in each cage and 78-80 at night during the summer, 76 during the winter, but always get it back to 85 during the day. It shouldn't matter when he's in the water- most pythons are nocturnal so they will do most of their exploring and such at night. Snakes will soak themselves when they are getting ready to shed, thirsty, too hot, or have mites. As long as he doesn't have mites and the temps are good in his cage, then don't worry about his soaking. Enjoy him and post pictures!
