today my brother got an mexican black king and hes crazy.a real biter my brother wants to give him back to the store but i fell in love with him even tho i only picked him up for like 2mins than had to leave for work im a sucker for snakes so he just called me and said that its not a snake its a pitbull and hes getting rid of him so ima pay him.guess i got another snake.tell me if im right even tho i never had this problem with my boa or bull i figure it just need to be tamed to build up his tolerance to humans cause no one ever handled him even the pet store people was scared to pick him up i had to take him out the tank so they could sell him and hes just a baby could fit in the palm of my hand.

maybe you guys should give him at least a week without handling to settle in before you decide his temperment...

That is definitely not the right attitude to have about snake ownership, and I wouldn't think a snake would help a guy get most girls- me, sure, but a lot of women are petrified of snakes and will run the other way. I think it sounds like the snake will be better off with you anyway. But yes, oftentimes a new snake will be nippy or jumpy at first, then once it's had a week or so to settle in it will often calm down. Also younger snakes tend to be nippier, and they can calm as they grow. And if he didn't wash his hands after handling food items, that is a definite invitation to be bitten- my BP is docile as a puppy dog but if I smell like food he will latch right onto me, and his bites hurt!

Geeez- I can't stand when people buy animals without having done their research first. You need to know the care requirements, diet, temperament, etc, of the specific species you're getting beforehand so you can be sure it will be happy and unstressed when you get it. Get your brother a book or two on snakes- ASAP.

Web is always good, but I can recommend a few excellent books. I think by far the best snake book, for all around information from species, to anatomy, breeding, evolution, physiology and behavior, is "Snakes: A Natural History" by Roland Blauchot. Another good one for someone just starting out is "The Proper Care of Snakes" by Armin Geus. I would strongly strongly recommend your brother head to the nearest library or go on Amazon.com and arm himself with a few good thorough books on snakes if he has any intention of keeping his current snake or one in the future. It isn't fair to the animal for its owner to be unprepared. Thank goodness he has you to keep him in check!

Did anyone fail to mention the fact that you SHOULDN'T handle ANY snake, regardless of temperment, after feeding it? Should at least wait 48 hours.
Secondly, contrary to popular belief, you can't pick up chicks with snakes (easily)
