Hello,
New here just thought I'd pop in and say hi. I currently keep Rio Fuerte Beaded Lizards and some tarantulas. I may pick up some diamond pythons and gila's later in the year.

ok ok, I have some old pics. I need to get some new ones.
I didn't trust my beaded's at this time, I just got them and wasn't sure about their hissy attitude. They are now calm and don't attempt to bite although they bluff alot! I'll get some pics of the pair soon, it's hard to capture their yellow, the flash washes out the color!

Here is a recent pic of my mexican red knee female I raised from the size of a dime:

I really enjoy working with venomous, here's a friends adult female gaboon:

Here's a giant 6ft+++ Paupa New Guinea Taipan I imported, currently in the same friends collection, you'll also see how much I love beadeds! I started a pretty large beaded tatoo!:

I've been around awhile and have had everything from green tree pythons and Timor pythons to malaysian bloods and angolan pythons. Lots of monitors, chameleons, and other neat stuff inbetween. I'm now starting to keep and breed my own stuff....thus I'm beginning a new collection.
Wow that's a big gabby! I dig the enclosures you have there.
Is the beaded lizard full grown in that picture? Is that the male or female?
Thanks!

Nice collection- that is one massive gabby! The taipan is also cool, although I couldn't see its face. That beaded lizard is huge- is it full-grown?

Just so some don't get mixed up the taipan and gaboon are not mine. The picures in the
background with the cages, those are not mine.my collection is growing rather quickly! Anything I get will
be staying with me till they pass away.the beadeds are adults and will be 5 yrs old this comming breeding season.
If you want to see full grown beaded pics google rio fuerte beaded lizards and steve angeli's page sould be the top one.
Go to his pic page, he's holding what is believed to be the largest beaded in captivity! They get much larger then mine.

How venomous are they? Are they deadly like gila monsters?

Gila's aren't deadly so to speak as far as I know. Their bite is very similiar. Their venom is designed to open the pain receptor's in the body. A trip to the hospital and a morphine drip would do the trick. I don't think there are any reported death's from either. There are some other symptom's that go along with their bite though. A bite from either is not designed to kill, it's a deffensive bite.

Red-knees are neat tarantulas, but rose-hairs are far better first tarantulas as they are generally more docile. Red-knees, red-legs, and fire-legs tend to kick off "urticating" hairs whenever they are bothered. These hairs feel like fiberglass. I had a big red-leg and she was awesome, but I had to be very careful as she kicked those hairs on me every time. Never tried to bite though.

those hairs sounds quite lovely <-- hopefully obvious sarcasm and humour
So i take it when the tarantula gets stressed it kicks it's hairs in defense? and these hairs sting?

Weather or not the hairs effect you or not depends on the pperson. The hairs don't effect me unless I'm weaty and my pours are open. My red knee does kick hairs but he's very gentle. She's my first tarantula. I also have an antilles pink toe and brazilian black. I will be getting more in the near future!

AHAAHAH it starts as a hobby and becomes a lifestyle. My family is learning that. "Muuum can i get a ___"? then she tells me there's nowhere to put it because my other pets already take up all our space. I really would like another snake or two and a girlfriend for my gecko.

I know how that is! I've been in the hobby for over 10 years, been working with venomou for 6 years. I don't live with my parent so I don't have to ak, that not always a good thing lol!

Oh I know how that is too...I started off with one BP and honestly didn't intend to get another, but then I saw a gorgeous Pueblan milksnake and my fiance got a house snake, and then I saw a boa, and so on, etc etc. Now we have 33 snakes, 5 geckos, a pair of chams, a rose-hair tarantula and a few frogs.....herps are soo addicting..lol,. Not to mention the cats and dog we had before the snakes..lol
Soo true. Addictive, aren't they? :D It's very hard for me to pick a favourite species...they are all equally addicting and awesome in their own ways LOL. Started off with one albino Cali King for me and now..well we've got a few more haha.

Wow!! You guys have some great collections!!
If only i had more space to put stuff. My mum is a plant person so plants take up the surface space that isn't already taken by a tank.
I don't think i have a favourite species yet. I looove everything I have so far! It's too hard to choose, they're all just so different. =D I've got Gary the gecko, Wolfus the bp, Spike the beardie, a few fish, two cats, and an absolutely huge puppy that is almost unbelievably clumsy!
Hey, you could always get into planted tanks..then you can combine your hobbies!! (Save space ;) )
