Hi there folks!
My name is Cody and I am researching getting our first family snake. I have always wanted a snake and as a teen had almost talked my dad into it, but alas he came home with an Iguana...
So now that I'm all grown up and stable when my 13 year old stepdaughter asked if we could get a snake there's only one answer. We are looking for a corn snake as I believe it would be a great first snake for her. So here I am to do some research and find out some more info. I love forums as I also have a Cane Corso (which is a rare breed Italian Mastiff) and have learned so much about her breed using a forum such as this one, as well as made some new friends! Looking forward to hearing your stories and soaking up some info and tips!

Corn snakes are gorgeous, Cody! They are good beginner snakes, too, as are ball pythons and milk snakes. You're going to have a lot of fun deciding what to get.

Watch for herp shows near you--those are the best places to both see and buy. You'll be able to see lots of different kinds of snakes, and you can check out the vendors ahead of time. Get the list of vendors for an upcoming show from the show's online website, then go to the Board of Inquiry at FaunaClassifieds Home Page (http://www.faunaclassifieds.com) and check on the reputations of the vendors who carry the type of snake in which you're interested. That will help ensure you get a healthy snake.

Good luck!
