I have only ever made "rubbermaid" racks from melamine.

Does anyone build racks out of any lighter material. Melamine works good, but its so heavy...any suggestions

thanks guys

I know alot of people make racks from plywood. I would be careful to seal it well because it offgasses a fair bit. Quervo's post on safe materials had a good deal of info on that subject.
I suppose you could use alot of different types of wood if they were properly sealed. I would try to steer away from softwoods such as pine. Lol... I have never built a rack though, so this is purely speculation and observation :)

Matt, do u have any pics of ur rack???
I think my next project will be to build one for neonate bloods seeing that theres no way in he!! they will feel secure in the enclosures i have built....
Is it really that simple as it seems?
As for wood...im no expert but as linds said many ppl use plywood....however i think that malamine is the nicest way to go for tall slender racks....just attach a towel or something of that sort to the bottom...so u can slide it around...however..i live in an apartment with only hardwood floors...so probably wouldn't work if u have carpet.....WOW..i'm kinda gettin off topic:)
Uhhhh.....k..i got nothin else to say:rolleyes:
