I guess they're the amazing herps too Kmef07,expecially Brazillian rainbow,I was kept this one..nice color.
i really like the maurus. it stays a really nice color as an adult.
yeah,but you know,the Brazilian has more powerful color:red color.Lets compare with Maurus,they has a browny skin.CMIIW.

Nice! I'd never seen, or even really heard of, a Maurus boa before- very thick- bodied it would seem. Neat pattern. Don't mind Kmef07-he just wants everything to be a rainbow boa
(btw, Kyle, just kidding! :) )

haha : rainbow boa minded,huh ?! :)
Hey i love my brb. lol but no i really am not a huge fan of the colors they get as adults. i kinda like the colors of the maurus boa better as an adult. the brazilians dont have much of a difference in the color as adults its just a red color. but hopefully mine doesn't get as red and stays more brown like the maurus

Sometimes vibrant is wonderful, sometimes bold and bright is great, and sometimes subtle is beautiful--each has its place. I would get tired of it if everything were brightly colored. I love the subtly colored beauty of the desert--and the subtle beauty of Bagus' Maurus boas!

I agree with you Chu. I find all my snakes- the bright and the subtle- amazing and beautiful. There does need to be a balance. What really gets me with the rainbows, especially BRBs and PRBs though, is that they are fully nocturnal, so all that brilliance would never see the light of day in the wild- makes me wonder why they evolved to be so bright.
maybe for camo in the jungle. it is so wet there with water dropplets that shimmer like a prizm just like the brbs and prbs skin. so if it is hiding in leaves and just a little of it is showing then it just looks like water dropplets the are shining. just a thought no real evidence behind it.

Hmm, good possibility. And maybe with the moonlight flickering between the trees the circular patterns on their backs blend in. However and why ever they evolved the way they did, they are stunningly beautiful animals!

The "Maurus Boa" is known as the Colombian rainbow boa. Maurus is the latin name as stated in the first post.

correct Aaron..the Maurus is the Columbian Rainbow Boa.
there are 4 subspecies of Rainbow boa:Brazilian,Venezuelan,Argentines and Columbian, each has a different colours.as Brazilian one that people majority keeping them.
CMIIW.
Ah I thought it was a Columbian. Nice snakes but I personally don't like the duller, reduced pattern as much as the brilliant brazillians..
Bagus, what about the Peruvian? I know very little about rainbow boas so I am not correcting just asking.

I think the columbians are very neat. I've had the pleasure of working with a couple in the past and they are neat little boas.
I guess, the Peruvian is Red tail boas, like the Guyana Red tail boas,in subspecies Boa Constictor.CMIIW.
here're the pic :

There is also a Peruvian Rainbow boa. I have one, and it is just as brilliant, if not more so, than the Brazilian. I guess that would make 5 subspecies of rainbow boa?

oh,I haven't know yet if the rainbow boa has 5 subspecies, that's great !!

Also do you know the latin name of your peruvian rainbow boa?
There are 12 subspecies yet known of rainbow boa. most of them differ just because of location. some are just slightly different. like the peruvian and rainbow boas are really close in color but have more bold dark lines that surround the colors.

Yes but unless it's been actually identified as a seperate subspecies with a latin name then you're just renaming an already known subspecies.
Ya i know im just replying to the post willow put up saying there are 5 subspecies of rainbow boa. I was just saying there are 12 that science says are all different species. so yes to your question there are 12 subspecies that have been identified by science. But most of them really don't look a lot a like especially as babies they look almost the same but as they get to adults they get really different looking most of the time.

Here is a picture of Picasso, my Peruvian rainbow boa. He looks almost identical to the Brazilians, just a tad more orange. Supposedly the Peruvians stay a bit brighter than most Brazilians as adults, but that is just what the breeder Ben Seigel told me.
Yes from what i have read the brazilians turn a little darker red as they get older and the peruvians stay between the columbians and the brazilians. I think my next snake will be a peruvian.
So what are all the subspecies? (latin and common names would be helpful) Or if anyone has a link, preferably with pictures..?
I have no idea i will look tomorrow when i have time at work and try and get a link for you.
I found this on Wiki. just search rainbow boas and you will find it. I couldn't paste the link from my work computer but i will try again tonight when i get home. it only lists 9 and there seems to be some debate on how many subspecies there really are. the range is from 9-12.
