My name's Kayle and I live in Calgary, Alberta. It's about 1:00am and I just got my Columbian Boa set up in her terrarium.
First I'll tell you about her:
Her name is Jamie and she'll be 2 years old on April 28th. She's about 5' long and is very docile.
And now I'll give you a little info on myself:
I grew up in Manitoba about 15 minutes from the Reptile Gardens near Shilo Army Base. My Dad had reptiles when I was growing up so I always have had an interest in them. When I moved away for college, my roommate had 2 iguanas, a king snake, and a rainbow boa. The iguanas were free range in the house, the king snake was a nasty little thing, and the boa was quite docile just like Jamie.
My girlfriend and myself moved out to Calgary a couple years ago and we've been searching for a snake and iguana for the past few weeks. I came home from work yesterday and she showed me an ad for a Boa and Terrarium a fellow was selling. It wasn't easy for him to let her go (he's moving back east) and her new owner had to be a good match.
Lucky for me, I got to bring her home!

Welcome, Kayle! I'm Sandy from Oklahoma, US. I've had snakes & other critters for over 30 years now. Unlike you, my dad wasn't interested in reptiles, and my mother was completely phobic of snakes, so, being a rebellious little girl, I spent a lot of time learning how to catch garter snakes (which were prolific where I grew up!). Even after my mother found out & freaked, my interest continued unabated.

Today, after teaching three sons how to catch snakes & keeping various WC (wild caught) beasties for the decades they were growing up, my DH & I have only a BP (ball python). However, I'm planning to begin looking for some Phelsumas (day geckos) and more equipment for snake-keeping in May (poor DH--he hasn't a clue--yet!). Within the next year or so, I'd like to buy a pair of piebald BPs and try breeding . . . that's definitely for the future, and very dependent on getting the right equipment and LOTS of info beforehand!

Now you've got the boa, but you still need the iguana! Hope you both have fun with the herps!

Hi I too am from Calgary & will be the 2009 president for the local society TARAS (The Alberta Reptile & Amphibian Society). We hold 2 public shows/sales here in Calgary every year (spring & fall). Show is April 25 & 26 at the Ogden Legion if interested (well duh! LOL). Cheers Mark

Hey Sandy, sounds like I had it easy with respect to reptiles when I was younger. It's funny you should mention garter snakes, they're extremely common in Manitoba. But they're more aggressive than my Boa, thats for sure.

Gonesnakee, I look forward to the shows!
