Hi Everyone,
I am looking at getting a gecko or male female pair of geckos for my daughter's birthday in June she will be 5. I will be doing majority of care. But I want a gecko that we can pickup and hold. And one that is relatively easy to care for. I have been looking into the Leopard Gecko but was wondering if there were others I could look into.
Thanks,

African Fat tails. They are much calmer than leos and easier to handle. Look into them. My nephew used to handle mine all the time and he was only 4 or so at the time.

I'd suggest either the leopard gecko or crested gecko. Both are very easy to take care of and don't mind handling. Just remember that most geckos will drop their tail when startled so handling should be kept to a minimum for the first couple weeks.

Awesome thanks for the suggestions. I was actually leaning more towards the Leopard or Crested as well but cost wise I may go with the Leopard.
I've never personally owned leos but I've owned cresteds geckos, and although I have never owned both I am leaning towards cresties. They are a little more jumpy but the biggest reason I say this is because you don't need to feed them crickets. You can feed them a powdered diet called Crested Gecko Diet(CGD). CGD is a complete diet and be fed exclusivley - no crickets! A lot of people find their cresties grow faster if fed crickets a couple times a week in addition to the diet though. It's fun to watch geckos chase down crickets but it's nice when you don't need to keep them in the house. Make sure you gutload the crickets from the petstore and then you're good to go!
Also in the long run it is cheaper because cresties
a)don't eat as many crickets
b)don't need lights (their temps are mid 70s)
c)you can get buckskin or 'normal' cresties which are very cheap..around $60 or real stunners for up to around $300
:)......go rhacs!!!
Leos are the common gecko everyone gets for beginners but I have both the leo and the aft. I love both though I'm leaning towards AFT right now. I posted a thread in the leo section, its pretty lonely over there.
