hey my brb just shed tonight and i missed it but i have a question. is this shed good it is all pretty much in once piece but it breaks off because my snake just seems to get it wrapped around stuff so tight it just rips a little.

here are the pics of the shed and also some of the pics i took right after the shed. the colors were amazing so i have to post some.
please let me know if this shed is ok.

nice pictures ALL of them. I like to see whole sheds but sometimes they get cought in things as you said and break. As long as its all off and the eye caps are cleared.

Aww I love all the pictures!
The colours are amazing!!
The shed looks fine from what I can see. Check to make sure there are no eye caps and that the whole piece of shed came off the bottom of the tail. Other than that, congrats on a nice shed.

oh ok ya the whole shed is there the head was off in once piece and then it broke right at the neck. when it breaks it breaks as if you were to take a full shed and just use scissors. but other than that it is a complete cylinder like shed just broken up.
the rips all seemed to happen at the top of the snake and he last 18-20 inches all came off perfect.

Wow look at that purple! Vegas is looking great!

Your son is adorable too :)

ya there are no special colors used or anything it's just with and without the flash. i couldn't believe the colors. everytime my brb sheds it seems to get more vibrant and better.

With sheds aslong as there's none stuck anywhere then you're good. Be sure to check head pieces for both eye caps and make sure the tip of the tail has shed too. Those are the two places to watch for when a snake sheds.

Is that mommy in the last pic? I must say your son does look like his dad. Give him a few more years and he'll look older than you!

Kmef07
02-17-09, 09:57 PM
ya thats my girlfriend and his mommy. and ya i know i look young. for my birthday i was at dinner and the waitress asked if i was turning 17 or 18. i was like im 20 ***. she made me prove it by showing her my drivers license.

both eyecaps are here and also the last 2/3rds of the skin was shed perfect. its just frustrating to not have a perfect shed. darn snake had the skin wrapped around so much junk it ripped.

Your girlfriend is very pretty and your son is so adorable! =]
AHAH! I've had similar thing happen to me. My younger sister looks 19 even though she's really only 14 and because of that and the fact that i'm shorter than her, it makes me look like I'm 12 not 16, which I am. She can get into movies that I can't, and whenever we go anywhere everybody says to her "oh is that your younger sister?".

Sounds kinda frustrating. My bp's first shed since I got him was pretty bad so I fixed up the conditions and now I'm hoping his next shed will be nice and perfect. Maybe next time your snake won't wrap it around so much that it rips.

If you lived close enough to me Kyle I'd just give you snake sheds from here. I get plenty of them.

looks awsome, does it always look.... pearly?

Kmef07
02-18-09, 02:04 PM
the pearly is because of the water that i sprayed on the tank she doesnt really drink out of the water bowls so she drinks the beads on her skin or the moss or on the walls and ornaments in the tank. but the rainbow colors are how she looks all the time when she is not in shed. it's cool to take her out in the sunlight because she has such beautiful skin and her skin is really nice and perfect. thats why im pissed about not having perfect sheds.
This is her second shed since i got her and they have both been wrapped around so much that i almost rip them when i try and take the pieces out.

Kenny--it'll seem strange when you're 28 and you get carded when you try to order wine in a restaurant, but when you're 40 or 50, you'll LOVE looking younger than your age! I promise! ;)

Kyle, your GF, son, and snake are all great lookers! and you're not so bad yourself! ;)

Kmef07
02-19-09, 09:38 AM
Chu!!!! where ya been? haven't seen you on here in like a week. and kendra people tell me i'll like looking younger than my age too but i dunno right now it kinda sucks.

Chu!!!! where ya been? haven't seen you on here in like a week

Why, thanks, Kyle! It's always nice to know I've been missed! (I hope that was in a good way!) ;)

I've been working on my book. My brain is practically dead. I have 70 pages of references I need to go through for accuracy & I'm tired!

Enough whining! I'll hit a couple more posts & then get back to work.

Anyway--yeah, it sucks when people think you're a kid and you're not, but it really does NOT suck when you're 40 or 50 and people think you're in your 20s or 30s! I really enjoy NOT looking my age nowadays! (My kids had fun with it when they were teenagers--they loved to ask people to guess my age! It was pretty strange.)

Kmef07
02-19-09, 09:10 PM

hey got another question. my brb ate three rat pinks today to get rid of the rest of them and she hasn't eaten for 15 days so she got a big meal. Well here is my "problem" my brb ate all three and then just kinda layed in the open for about 5 mins and she usually goes straight into her hide. but then she slowly crawled under her moss and then tonight she was out of the moss and on top of her hide. so she is actually kinda active. she has never ever been active after eating and i've never heard of a snake being active the night that it ate. she ate around 5 and it is now midnight and she has been out since like 1030 it's really weird. is she just that comfortable with her surroundings and stuff or is she not happy or whatever?

- Of course I will. I'm waiting for those years so I can bug my sister about looking old. I was at an interview for a job and when I sat down they told me I couldn't apply for the job because I was too young and I had to explain that I wasn't 14 I am 16 and show them proof of it. oh well, I got the job though! =D

Hmmm Kyle, I'm really not sure what it could be. See, my BP still hasn't eaten so I'm not really sure what to say... sorry

Hey, Kyle--when your BRB got on top of her hide, was she getting closer to a heat source? After eating a lot, she might have felt a need for more warmth to help her digest her meal.

My BP once ate 5 mouse pinkies (months ago when he was only about 17" long, and it was a huge amount of food for him, about 20% of his body weight). After the last one he just dropped his head down and didn't move for awhile. It was if he was groaning and saying, "OMG, I can't believe I ate so much! I'm stuffed!" Then, when I put him back in his enclosure, he slowly crawled onto the part over his UTH and just stayed there for a day or so. It was really funny!

Kmef07
02-22-09, 10:23 AM
no she actually went to the far side of the cage where i have the tree she likes to climb on. she was up there like she is when she is hungry so im thinking she may have been waiting for more food since it had been so long since she had eaten with her shed cycle being so close to the other one and her last feeding. it had been 15 days since she had eaten but she usually eats evey 5-7

Chu'Wuti
02-24-09, 01:45 PM

That's entirely possible. Is that where you feed her?

Kmef07
02-25-09, 10:24 AM
I feed her in her cage but not on top of the tree thing. i usually feed her wherever she is at that point in time.

Chu'Wuti
02-25-09, 05:19 PM
and she will go to various places in the enclosure where she's "found" food before. My BP does the same thing. They're hunting--find a likely spot, get in position, wait for a nice furry tidbit to happen by . . . if nothing happens there, try another spot!

Kmef07
02-26-09, 12:05 PM
Ya she was crazy active last night i watched her on and off from 930pm when the lights go out till about 4am when i woke up and saw her still moving around. she was literally out all night. i like seeing her out cuz then i know she isn't sick or anything. she even found a way to fit half her body between the bottom of the screen and a lip right under the top of the aquarium. she fell a couple times pretty hard but i figure she kept doing it so must not have hurt lol. defiantly time to put the straps on the tank now though.

Oh, yeah. I've had a number of snakes do that; had a rough green snake even lay eggs in that space once! The BP I have now has finally gotten too fat to fit in that space any more.

Have fun!

awful nice looking brb my favorite type of snake, what kind of substrate is your snake on?

Kmef07
03-16-09, 09:57 PM
its on repti-bark

kman7183
03-17-09, 07:54 AM
if your repti-bark is fir based you might want to switch to orchid based bark, fir is a type of pine. just would hate to see you lose a nice snake like that.

Kmef07
03-18-09, 09:38 AM
im pretty sure it isn't. because that is known to be harmful to snakes and it says right on the package that is is safe for snakes. but my snake has been on it for months now with no ill side effects.

when i first got my brb i put her on zoomed repti bark, then i read what it was made from and it said fir bark and the also said it was safe for snakes.now i use cypress mulch instead.

Kmef07 your snake isnt perfectly healthy currently there is unexplained spots on scales.

Kmef07
03-19-09, 05:32 PM
yes coy but would it really take months like 4 or 5 to have an effect? and the pine doesn't affect skin i dont think. it causes respitory problems i could be wrong but that is what i remember

Chu'Wuti
03-19-09, 07:48 PM
and, potentially, skin irritation.

well i stand corrected i if getting the wetness down doesnt help i will take out the repti bark as the next action and put in coconut husk.

So the coconut husk was awesome she just shed last night and i finally got a 100% perfect shed!!!!!!!!!! like many of you told me she needed the humidity but not the wetness so i backed off the wetness and it turned out perfect. also all the bad spots on her scales seem to have gone away or are getting better. im so excited and thanks to everyone who has helped me over the last couple months!!!!!!!
