I WAS SOO CLOSE IN BUYING A BABY RED TAIL BOA, BUT TODAY I SAW A PICTURE OF A FEMALE SURINAME BOA ON WWW.REDTAILBOA.NET OWNED BY SWERVE AND NOW I CAN'T DECIDE IF I SHOULD STICK WITH THE BABY RED TAIL BOA, OR GO FOR A SURINAME BOA.
WHAT ARE THE ADVATAGES OR DISADVANTAGES IF I BUY A SURINAME BOA INSTEAD OF A REGULAR RED TAIL BOA, OR VICE VERSA.
PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE, CUZ IF I DON'T GET HELP, I HAVE A FEELING THAT I MIGHT END UP GOING FOR BOTH!
THANKS, PAOLO

A suriname boa IS a red-tailed boa so I'm not too sure what you're asking us. I'm very, very confused.
Hi Paolo,
Suriname Boa's are a subspecies of the Boa. There's about 10 subspecies to choose from the key is to pick the Boa that appeals to you.

I think what your asking is whether to get a common redtail or a true redtail, the true redtail(Suriname) will get larger, cost more, and be a bit more unforgiving of husbandry mistakes. They are a bit more prone to regurges and should be kept on smaller prey items longer. The common boa (Columbian) is a little smaller, a lot cheaper, and less stringent on husbandry, also less prone to regurge. Hope this helped a bit.

It was my understanding that the Common boa was larger than a suriname?

Had to be a smart a** eh Jeff?! lol...
Asphyxia,
Typically BCC are larger than Colombians, though on occassion BCI females will reach lengths of 8-9 feet, and very rarely 10'.
