okay, so ive got a 40 gal glass tank and i want to switch it to a nice big container. the container is black with a gray lid. or it will be frosted white all around. is this too much of a change for the snake? ive also heard that damp newspaper is a grade A bedding for the snake. any thoughts/suggestions?

i like frosted tubs because they still provide a sense of security for the animal while allowing you view your animal inside. also they let in some ambient room light which is enough for snakes such as a BRB.
i use newspaper for hatchlings or quarantine animals but i regularily use aspen shavings for all my other snakes.
the change from tank to tub has to happen sooner or later and im sure your snake will deal with it just fine.

They usually explore everything carefully to make sure there are no other predators in the new enclosure--lots of tongue flicking will go on as they smell everything carefully. Then they find a nice hide and go into it. Or they may find a hide first, hide for awhile, then check everything out. At any rate, within a few days or less, you'll probably see the snake acting quite normally.
I've used aspen shavings, too, and liked them quite well--much better than newspaper or paper toweling.

thanks for the advice brotha's. but my question is, can they see outside of the tank? cause moving it to a bin where it cant see outside seems odd. or does it just see whats in its set-up?
ya the snake probably doesn't care what is outside of its home. it will probably make the snake feel more comfortable and secure. i have a brb and i use repti-bark it holds humidity for the brb and it releases the humidity slowly and stays moist longer. I would get that. also there is almost no chance of accidental ingestion of the repti bark because it is bigger and heavier. I feel it is much more supperior to aspen and newspaper is the cheap way out but it doesn't stay wet long and my snake started getting some ink on it when i first got it. the white underbelly got a little stained almost. also make sure you watch the temp and humidity in the new tub for the first couple days it is really different from the tank. it will get hotter faster and keep heat better and also keep a lot higher humidity. if you have any questions about the set up i just went through a complete set up and got it as close to perfect as i could it took about 3 months of tweaking to get it fully automated minus the misting. but pm me if you have anymore questions.

im sure the snake will be able to see outside of the enclosure. frosted tubs will still let you see the snake and let the snake see you but may make the snake feel safer because of the reduced visibility.
