I was just wondering how you get this type of snake? Do you breed 2 different colors together and just hope that this happens? I think that they are beautiful and was just wondering.
I dont know how to breed them out. but my breeder is doing it with what he believes is 2 100% pies. It's rediculous he sells them for like 2500 as babies and his other breeder female he just sold for 6000 at a show. the one female and one male he has now were successful in their first attempt and she is gravid. he is really happy about his payday already lol.

Piebald is a recessive genetic mutation. Best bet to try & understand is to pick up a basic BP book or run a search online for info on genetic morphs for BPs, Mark

Sorry for wasting time and not searching more into it first...just wasn't sure at all where to look. Found my answer though and a very detailed explanation about genetics, simply put so that even a newbie like me could understand. Not sure if there is that simple of an explanation on this forum. So to answer my own question here is what I found:
-A pied (which is recessive) needs two copies of the pied gene to be a visual pied. If a pied is paired with a normal, the resulting offspring all get ONE copy of the pied gene, so they only express themselves as a normal appearing baby, but are 100% het.
You breed 2 100% hets of the same gene to each other - in this case pied, each egg has a 25% chance of receiving a copy of the gene from both parents, resulting in a visible pied.
Will post a link to the explanation I found. I actually pretty much understand now:
A Lesson in Basic Genetics - Ball-Pythons.net Forums (http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/showthread.php?t=52847)
that was really imformative. thanks a million i always wanted to know how that worked out with the breeding stuff im really trying to get into the breeding thing to start up the new room im trying to create. im hoping to start a reptile business with snakes but who knows maybe it will just be a really big hobby.
Pieds are priiiicey, and even het pieds can be expensive.

Siz if you think they're pricey now then you wouldn't have liked to been around when they were 20 thousand each.
Prices for them now are bargains!
so while being bored at work i just read that whole website you posted and it was really really really good the first time i've ever understood the genetic process. thanks again for the info it was awesome!!!!!!!!!!! i love being paid at work to sit here and look at this forum lol

Just recently found out that my man's foster dad has been keeping snakes for at least 20 years now. I never knew! Oh I'm excited now!! Apparently he has a few corns and about 18 other species :D So now I want to go meet my in-laws...lol. Oh I wonder what he has there, and the things I could ask...I'm in dreamland now.

Sounds pretty cool. Maybe he'll have them all seperate and tell you that they don't like each other.
Still always cool to see other's collections.
I feel bad for her. She is going to drive the poor guy crazy with questions the first time she meets him lol.

Ok so that was weird. We haven't heard from him since last winter and all of a sudden who calls? I must be psychic ;) So yes I annoyed him a bit. He said he has sold all of his BPs ut he also said that he has 18 different types of corns for sale, and a baby burmese. He only keeps corns and burmese right now. Seems like a weird mixture to me but I don't really know much about snakes so...I dunno. He has 3 large burms right now that he plans on breeding and has had them for years. He said any time I want to go over I can so I'm planning a visit next week :D He said I could even help him feed them all and "play" with the burms if I want to. SO EXCITING! I did ask him what his opinion on housing the BPs together and he said that there is no problem, just make sure they are all healthy, if one gets sick so will the others. So I didn't annoy him too much for now ;) He offered to take me to the next show he goes to and I mentioned Piebalds to him and that I would love to get one and he said he knows people that have sold them for a load cheaper than usual. So I am going to have my first encounter with a burmese next week...wish me luck!!!!! lol
good luck.............I can see the headlines now. Enthused snake lover now snake food to a monsterous burmese python in father-in-laws basement.
Hope he likes you cuz this could be a good way for you to disappear as an accident if he doesn't want you with his son. lol

Mykee where are the updated shots?!
Secondly, people don't usually buy cheap pieds or cheap snakes because there's usually a reason why. I spend good money on GOOD quality snakes. When you're spending thousands on animals it pays to get the best.
Mykee those are really nice.

I love, love, love them!!! They remind me or a jack russel terrior...lol. I never really thought that a cheaper price could possibly mean an issue with the snake but it sure does make sense. At least I will have him with me to check them all out and let me know his thoughts on their health and things like that. P.s. I will get some pics of the burmese he has and let you all know before I go see them. That way if I don't show back up after you all know to check the London and St. Thomas obituaries for a pic ;)

As for the "group housing" comments. ALL snakes are best housed individually EXCEPT for breeding purposes. Someone with 20 years experience should understand the reasons why ;) Mark
Mark, 20 years of owning reptiles doesn't necessarily mean 20 years of knowledge.

Not 20 years experience owning reptiles, experience breeding and keeping a variety of snakes. Either way I'm still not sure what I'm going to do. Hope yous like the pics though.

I see tanks and heat lamps for snakes. Pictures say a 100 words.
Still though, very pretty snakes.

Not sure what you mean by that at all. Those tanks were empty, 18 of his snakes died not long ago due to poisoned rats he bought from a breeder, I assumed that this was what those tanks were for. The Burm tanks, and Corn tanks are on other sides of the room. If I had known you wanted pics of the tanks I would have taken some, or maybe I just don't understand what you mean.

is 1000 words lol:yes:
"poisoned rats he bought from a breeder"
I think that says far more than 1000 words....

I did mean 1000 words. Missed a key stroke.
I agree with Mykee. Sorry, those are reptile tanks. At least the one on the left of you (your right) in the picture must be. It's set up like a reptile tank.
Still think the burms look good though. I give him that.

you breed a anxanthic with an albino. thats it. youll get at least two piebalds a clutch if you breed those teo snakes. niether one is cheap.
"you breed a anxanthic with an albino. thats it. youll get at least two piebalds a clutch if you breed those teo snakes. niether one is cheap"
Nope. have you ever read a single book on ball pythons?!
You're just FULL of bad information, aren't you?
Breeding an albino to an axanthic will give you all normal looking ball pythons that are both het for albino and axanthic.
You will need to hold back a male and female from that clutch and breed them together in the chances of getting either an albino, an axanthic, or a lucy.
ZERO piebald babies will EVER come from an albin oto axanthic breeding.
That's like saying breeding two dogs will give you kittens.

I thought these were called snows? Since it still leaves a noticable pattern on the snake, although white? I could be wrong. I am legitmately asking. Besides who does this anyways? Only Ralph Davis and maybe a few others tried right before the mojaves and lessers proved to be a quicker route to the an all white snake.
Aaron, you're right in the sense that that is their "given' name by the community, but the true definition of an animal lacking any colour but white is leucistic. They're all leucistic to me, except of course, for the super mojave but that's another story...

Then what would an ivory be considered? They tend to have that yellow colouration down the spine and tend to get some darker colour around the face.
Still a lucy. Any animal lacking the brown (and all associated palette) and yellows (and all associated palette) are considered lucies.
Aaron_S

But the ivory has the yellow on the back correct? So it's not lacking ALL yellow, just most of it... I'm sure you're right though until proven otherwise.
Most "white snakes" have a yellow stripe to varying degrees on their backs...

hi,
here's a couple of links you might find useful
Markus Jayne, Ball pythons | ballpython.ca (http://ballpython.ca/what_get/recessive.html)
clicking on the link will show more info on the recessiveness/dominance of the genes.
that one page has BP's of all colours of the rainbow, some awesome looking snakes.
