Hello everyone. I'm sure some of you know me by now...lol, and some don't like me already but hopefully that will change. I wasn't sure if I wanted to write here because my first day or 2 were not all that pleasant. Very informaive though. I guess I'm going to stay:rolleyes: because I will likely always have questions and I figure I might as well tough it out. I am from a small town clost to London, Ontario called St. Thomas. I have 3 ball pythons as far as snakes goes. Along with that I have a 5 yera old iguana, a cat, various number of rats (for feeding not pets), 4 fish tanks with various fish, a newt, and a crayfish. In the summer we always try and keep turtles in the pond (oh and a pond with some fish) but they always seem to run away:no: I think I got them all. Me and my boyfriend together have 4 kids, which is insane on the weekends we have all 4 but somehow we manage without being driven to insanity...lol. I am a stay at home mom right now, and I orefer it to be like that, I'm just not ready to give my son to someone else to watch all day. Not sure what else to say. I'm sure I will talk to some of you later:)

I lived in London for a few years. I went to Fanshawe college so I know where you're from and the area. Do you have any pet stores there in St. Thomas or do you have to drive to London for feeders and such?

There is one pet store that usually has mice but rats are hard to find in the right size. I suppose I could always call them and see when they usually get new shipments. I have a few rats right now and are just hoping that they will breed for me soon...had them for almost 2 months now and nothing yet :( My mother-in-law said she caught a mouse in the live trap and asked me if I wanted her to put it in the freezer to kill it for the snakes...LOL!!!! I obviously said no. See I can be intelligent at times ;)

You can look online and ship in frozen foods. Try South Western Pet Centre on the east side of London. They should have rats for you at most times.
Hey Angie, welcome! Nice to see more Canadians on here. I have an iguana as well, used to have two, they are great reptiles to work with (err..mostly;)). I love this forum, and it has lots of good information, glad to see that you're sticking around. :)
Good luck with your BPS!

Hey if you can't find any frozen rats that you can have shipped i have a breeder who i get all of my stuff from and im sure he would cut u a deal that would beat anyone's price. his website is dkreptilesales.com he is awesome and his prices on his website are not always right they are usually lower.

wow guess that pic proves why babies (not your daughter but the baby doll) should not be around snakes. lol

Your kids are really cute. DH is OK, too! ;) and of course, the BPs are gorgeous. I hope you've explained to your little boy that he shouldn't ever put a snake around his neck if you or Daddy is not there--it's a good way to get strangled. Snakes are like guns--always loaded.

lol...no he can't reach them, there is a lock on the cage, they are in my room which he is not allowed in, and he knows that he's not allowed to handle them without an adult there with him.

Well, I figured you are smart enough to have done that already, but I'm not so sure about some other people who might happen upon this thread & see the pics. Glad you've got a lock on the cage.
Also glad I don't have to worry anymore except when my grandkids are visiting. And so far, they're not quite big enough to get the clips off the tank. Whew!
My son likes to try and take the wooden box off the cage cuz he will sit in front of the cage for an hour or so even if my snake is in it's hide he will just keep looking in the hide. it is really cute. he is almost two and he will hopefully learn soon that he doesn't have to look into the cage from the top and that he can look from the front through the glass. i need to find a good way to secure the top

It's really cool that you're teaching your children not to be afraid of snakes. I know so many people who freak out at the thought of one; they're the type who would panic and do something stupid if they ever saw one in the wild outdoors (e.g., their own backyard!). ;)
I taught my sons how to catch them properly (and how NOT to catch them--like not by the tail when you can't see the head!), how to identify them--important where I live, as we have venomous snakes (goes with not catching one when you can't see its head!), and how to care for them. We learned a lot about them together.
