snake in australia

Hello there,

this snake crawled under our table while we were playing cards before bedtime. It was just inland of Cairns. The snake was about 1,5m long. Does anyone have an idea what kind of snake it is? Sorry for the not so clear picture without the most important part: it's head :)

Maybe someone else will recognize it; I don't. You could also try googling "Australian snakes"--you'll come up with a ton of links & images.
