View Full Version : King snake just shed..
My cali king just shed and everything went really well. i was wondering if there is sum min time frame to feed it again. i've always waited at least 3 days..is this ok?
I don't believe there is any wait time for after a shed. The main reason why it is suggested not to feed during the shed phase is that snakes generally refuse food at that time.
If you did, the food item might be wasted.
I once didn't notice my snake in shed phase, and fed him anyway. He ate and then shed a little while later.
If I understand correctly, really the only time it might be dangerous or unhealthy to feed is when you are preparing your snake for hibernation. The snake needs to empty its gut of food, so that it does not rot inside.
If anyone knows better then I, please correct me.

Generally, snakes are very hungry after shedding and will be quite happy to eat the next day or so. During ecdysis (the process of getting ready to shed and shedding), the snake can't eat and just wants to hide. After the shed, then, the snake is really ready to eat--in the wild, it would go hunting pretty much immediately if it could.
Yep I feed mine as soon as I notice its done with its shed which is usually only a few hours. There always hungry right after
