Okay, I sometimes have some trouble with some abbr. ( I know that's an abbreviation). The one that keeps getting me is CBB. I know that it is captive bred something but what? And any others are greatly appreciated.

Captive born and bred

CB can refer to captive born when a WC female partruates after being caught.

WC wild caught

Males.Females.Unknown as in 0.1 = one female 1.0 = one male etc

LTC; Long Term Captive. This generally refers to an animal that was plucked off the sands of Africa and has been in a collection for years. The only debate among hobbyists is how many years does an animal have to be in a collection before it is considered LTC.

AC...Acclimated Captive. No quite long term, but enough to know that it's healthy and parasite free :D

I had a three-toed box turtle plucked off the red dirt of Oklahoma for 20 years--wouldn't that qualify as LTC?

I think the AC is a good idea--but we're now faced with the same problem of time--how long is long enough to know it's healthy & parasite free? Internal stuff might take awhile to show up.

AC was kind of a joke really. It could work, but an acclimated animal (to me) is one that isn't in quarentine, and that you feel confident is not going to infect your animals with anything. Which any animal is usually in a quarentine for 90 days, and has had tests done to check for internal parasites. It would also be feeding on a regular schedule.

Haven't you ever gone snake hunting? It's a popular sport here in Oklahoma! 'Course, you're in Canada with those laws against that kind of thing . . . here in Oklahoma, lots of folks go snake hunting in the late winter-early spring to catch snakes for the Rattlesnake Derbies.

Anyway, after living here this long and seeing LOTS of WC snakes who have been not-so-well cared for (shall we say, minimally at best?), that's why I added the abbrev. "UC." It's _my_ joke.

I posted a couple of pics on another thread--I stupidly put the ceramic heat lamp on top of the _plastic_ bracket crossing the top of the BP's aquarium and melted it. However, it turns out it was a _good_ thing to do, at least from the BP's perspective! He likes to hang out in the plastic loop.

Personally, I've never checked for internal parasites. I've heard about them, had to talk about them and advise that the animal might have them. When I worked in a pet store where things weren't all CBB or even CB for that matters. I haven't owned many more snakes than just one or two at a time so I've never really had to quarentine. Apparantly, 90 days is standard or 60 days. Something that is wild caught can potentially not show signs of anything until a few days/weeks after purchase. So this is more of a thing I should have headed with "From what I've read".

I was there after SuperPet let me go (I still have my damn shirt!) Much more educational and fun, but came with it's own issues I suppose.
