It sounds like they defrosted and were frozen again.
Did they smell putrid or was it just crappy quality? It's likely that the place you got them from buys them from someone else, I would let them know.
buy mice in bulk online...its much cheaper in the long run

Curt has the right idea. Check around for good companies as well as good prices--you want clean, quick-frozen prey. Even with shipping costs, which are expensive because they have to be overnight expressed with dry ice, it's a lot cheaper to buy online.
i buy mine from rodentpro.com they have not let me down since i started buying online and its been 4 years now

Akeetal might want to look for a company fairly close to Baton Rouge to reduce shipping costs. I use themousefactory.com in Texas because they're closer to me than rodentpro.com, which is in Illinois. Also, themousefactory.com almost always ships the next day, while rodentpro.com is slower, and time was really important when I first got my BP. On the other hand, rodentpro.com offers some nice suggestions for optimizing shipping & purchase costs. I read good things about both companies when I was researching where to purchase, and those are definitely two companies worth checking out.
