most cameras come with a manufactures one year warranty, by the time that expires the camera is obsolete. I figure if nothing happens the within first year, what ever does happen would be a result of a mistake on my part.

Extended warrantees are a total rip off. Unless you plan on actually using it, don't buy it. The sales men are usually making some type of commission off of the number of extended warrantees they sell and 99% of people NEVER use the extended coverage. My dad used to be the sales manager at a car dealership for like 12 years and it was his job to sell the warranties. He will tell you flat out, save your money.

thanks for the advice i have had warranties on other products like my graphics card and printer which i have used and saved money percasing it so im really looking directly at digital camras warranties
I end up dealing with customers that wish they bought the extended warranty. the way i see it, if you can't afford to replace the camera when the warranty is over extend it to the point where you can either replace it or you can't extend it any further. When you spend 1200+ on a camera you don't want it breaking next year out of warenty because you are out of luck and out of a camera. The extended warrenty is a gamble... i've gotten extended warranty on some thing and not had to use it, and then there's been the times where it's been handy. if the things never broke down they wouldn't supply it.

I recommend the extended warranty. I payed extra for the extended on my first cam (jvc qx3hd) and it broke with 3 months left on the warranty. The shop said the camera was discontinued and ended up giving me a canon s30. The canon is a far superior camera. You may get lucky and get a free upgrade like I did.

I've bought ext. warranties on most of my computer stuff [gotten ALOT of upgrades free because the parts were obsolete], the laundry set I bought my parents [dryers really suck for us they die alot!]
On a camera it's not really worth it like Rev said.. obsolete after a year!
ok ill keep the extended warrenty i thought maybe there was some issue with digital camras not needing warranties as much as other products. I have also taken lots of warranties out on other products that have proven a benifit
Cameras are like any other consumer good. There is going to be a certain fail rate. When you buy a warrenty you're just gambling that you'll be in that group. Now it probably doesn't cover damage like being dropped or abused but most cameras end up going through a little handling during their life time.
