The plastic sliding glass track on my terrarium is really, really tight, despite several months of daily opening and closing. I have tried 'lubing' it up with vaseline, cooking oil, etc. but it doesnt help much. Any other ideas? I know its not me, as I have been eating my spinach.

Which way is it tight, width or height?

I guess width. Moving it back and forth takes a lot of effort.

It sounds like your glass was cut to big.
You may have to have it cut one more time.
Tempered glass is very hard to cut so you will more than likely have to buy new glass.
Depending on the track you have I would think you would have to cut a 1/16" to a 1/8" off the height of glass.

Take care.

Either the glass was cut too big, or the track is too narrow for your thickness of glass. I always use 1/4" tracking and 3/16" glass.

Thanks for the advice, can I take the pieces I have to be thinned, or do I have to buy new pieces?

Is it tempered or plain glass? Tempered is a b!tch to cut down bits so it may be cheaper for you to just go and buy plain glass. You can go to any Auto glass repair place or window replacement factory and the usually have seconds which is used glass, but they cut it to size and sand the corners, and it is as good as new.

Glass cannot be thinned.

It is safety glass, not tempered. I wanted tempered, but it put me way over budget.

Glass cannot be thinned? Drat, looks like I have to bite the bullet and shell out for new glass.

Thanks for all the advice, I really appreciate it.

I wouldn't buy new glass so quickly. Unless it is extremely difficult for you to open why not live with it? I mean the harder it is for you to open the harder it is for its inhabitant to escape right? Of course if it's really difficult then perhaps its worthwhile to buy new sheets.

Errr.....why not buy new tracking that has wider tracks?

*cough cough* Yes, changing the glass track would work too. Thanks for the tip, Jeff.

If it's binding because the track is too thin .. get bigger track .. if it's because the glass was cut too big heightwise, take it to a glass shop and they can sand the edge down a little bit.
