Coppers have to be one of my favourite venomous snakes!
So you do remember eh? hahaha... Let me check my post count after this...

Naw I like to touch too much lol. I'd probably get bit within the first date. If I can't touch it, it will nag me forever!

LOL....hmmmmm well that could lead to a whole host of problems...LOL

Yeah, touching a venomous snake can have baaaad results. My oldest son couldn't resist--and he's missing a thumb as a result. He's lucky, too.
The copperhead is gorgeous. My middle son had a mated pair that had babies.
I've never seen a cobra like the one you've pictured, Brad. Truly beautiful. I'll enjoy from the photo, though; I don't keep venomous snakes myself, and my sons don't anymore, either (the ladies they married don't go for it!).

See that's why I just plan to never get married!
I would love an albino cobra. Maybe not a large one like a monocled but if capes were albino, I'd get one, or if I could a venomoid *ducks from the flames*

Ouch....that's no good.
Yeah Albino Monocles are actually a pretty variable one, there are so many different phases of albinos, from light pinks, to screaming orange and everything in between.
See that's why I just plan to never get married!
Just got to find the right woman...I did, been married going on 8 years she puts up with all my obsession! LOL

HEATHEN!

I DID duck out of the way!
By the way, I've been out of touch of forums mostly in the past few years. Has the whole "fad" of keeping venomoids left yet?

I have to agree, that cobra is truly beautiful. I'm perfectly happy with nonvenomous snakes, though--there are so many, and they are lovely, too--I'll be just fine.
BTW--there are some quite lovely young women in this world who _do_ go for venomous snakes . . . don't write off _all_ the women in the world! :)
yo really amazing cobra, do you have anti venom at your house??

Never to marry? Well, OK--to each his or her own! Diversity makes the world go round!
Re venemoids--I'd never heard of such a thing until you posted that comment earlier about them: I'd get one, or if I could a venomoid *ducks from the flames* I was completely confused--ducks from the flames??? Huh? So I had to go look that up. Now it makes perfect sense. But it seems pretty unfair to the snake in some ways.
The things I'm learning in this forum!

It's probably the most heated debate found on any forum. The debates on hybridization do not compare to venomoid "discussion".
For the record though, I never stated I would search out a venomoid but you know, if one was given up and proven to be a void then why should it suffer an untimely death due to ignorance? It should live.

Nope, no need....there's a facility within an hour of my house that stocks it.
Thanks again everyone.
LOL...yeah "voids" are quite the topic....LOL

ohh ok but wouldnt you like have to amputate your arm becasue of the venom

An hour? That seems like a long way away. When my oldest was bitten by the western diamondback on the thumb, we were within _5 minutes_ of a hospital . . . and the thumb did indeed have to be amputated.
Maybe the cobra venom has different effects? Rattlesnake venom is necrotizing, and boy was it clear what it does within a couple of days. (shudder)
I know cobra venom is a neurotoxin, but does it also have necrotizing properties? and how fast-acting is it?
It's probably the most heated debate found on any forum. The debates on hybridization do not compare to venomoid "discussion".
Yeah, I got that impression when I googled it. In some ways, I could see why people would have the surgery done; as one author pointed out, it's (somewhat) similar to having cattle dehorned. However, we have practical reasons for raising cattle (a food source). we have no such _practical_ reasons for keeping venomous snakes, do we? At least, not beyond learning more about them by observing them; mostly people just want to enjoy them. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with enjoying them (as long as they're properly cared for). I'm just wondering if it's appropriate to subject them to painful surgery that deprives them of part of their natural being just so we can keep them in our homes. Reminds me of declawing cats. Hmmm . . .
I can see why this could become a heated debate--so consider me as just asking questions to learn more. I don't want to offend anybody. I just want to learn.
and after keeping the rattlesnakes and copperheads for 1.5 years and my oldest son's "accident," _I_ definitely won't get any hots for them myself. Enjoying at a distance--such as by looking at the wonderful photos Brad has published--is fine with me!
Ummmm no.
Well I mean possibily, but only if something went went terribley wrong. But usually not.

what do you mean by hots
Aaron_S

Cobra venom is different than rattlesnake venom. I do believe that rattler venom works so that as you said it starts to decay. If my memory serves correct, and it may not, but cobra venom attacks the nervous system, shutting it down. I do think that an hour is still a distance away but I've heard of farther distances travelled to save a life.
I won't get into any discussion in regards to venomoids as you never know who's lurking the forum and it may start something. I can attempt to answer any questions that I may have some knowledge about, but all my knowledge is from reading or listening to keepers so you must take it as it is when I say something about venomous snakes.
Chase, he meant venomous snakes. It's a term used in the hobby to describe venomous snakes. "It's hot" is a term to say "it's deadly".
ohh ok so hots is anouther name for venomous snakes

Think of it as a slang term. I wouldn't use it unless you knew the person would know what you were talking about.

Fair enough; thanks for the warning. I'm not so curious that I want to start problems!
Re cobra venom, your memory does serve correctly. It is a neurotoxin, simply another way of saying it attacks the nervous system. I used to live in south Texas, where there are coral snakes--they also have neurotoxin. We were told they could kill you in seconds--if they actually broke the skin. Apparently they had very short teeth and supposedly had to chew on someone awhile to break the skin. I always took that with a large dose of salt, as I've been bitten enough to know that even _little_ snake teeth can be very sharp! They don't have to have fangs to break the skin & get the venom in.
LOL--I took "hots" a bit differently!
I'm in the same room as the snake's abode, so I just got the flashlight & checked on him. He's doing the loop-de-loop on his tree branch--must be waiting for some nice prey to walk by so he can drop on it!

Yah my adult male seems to be really active and hungry all the time. Even though he just had a very nice meal.
I have never heard about that with coral snakes. I also never lived in an area with them nor did a lot of research on them. Maybe it is true? I've had the smallest baby snakes break the skin on me so I wouldn't doubt it's possible for it to happen.
