View Full Version : Crested Hatchling Question...
I am new to Crested Geckos. I have a 6 week and 8 week old . I had them in seperate rubbermaid containers, but tonight I moved them in together into a 10 gallom aquarium. Is a 10 gallon to big for them to find their crickets at this age? I was trying to give them more space and a more natural surrounding. They have lots of vines and branches and plants. These are my first Cresties and they seem so delicate. My 6 week old (Godiva) looks to be half the size of the older one (Ziggy) Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
You deffinately want to separate them, especially considerding the age difference!
I raise my cresteds separately until adulthood at least.
I also find the hatchlings are easy to raise in critter keepers set up rather simply. Paper towel on the bottem, a couple sticks such as small pieces of bamboo and/or a small plant, and a small water dish.
There is nothing saying one wouldn't do well in your set up, but it makes it harder to monitor them.
But yes...deffinately separate them. Even if the larger one doesn't outright bully the smaller one, the smaller one could still be too stressed out to eat. And of course there is still the chance the larger one will either eat the bulk of the food, or harrass the smaller resulting in injuries.
Thanks Youkai, I am seperating tonight when I get home. I knew that 2 males could't be housed together, but I wasn't sure of hatchlings. I had read that they do better in small colonies of one male and a few females. I heard that they also speak with little chirps back and forth if kept together. Have you seen this?
I have had great luck with 1.1 groups, and 1.2 groups. You might be able to go larger, but I like to play it safe. The larger the tank the animals are in, the more vocalization I notice. They can be LOUD, including females!
