Hi guys I just purchased a Lavender/Banana Albino California Kingsnake, and It's acting a little timid/scared, is this normal? When i brought it home and picked it up out of it's little box, i handled it for around 5 minutes then let it go into the Terrarium and it seemed fine not to startled. But then i had to move the terrarium upstairs and i did this with the snake inside. Now its acting skittish and scared whenever i come near it. It will retreat and shake its tail as if to say "step off"... So thats what I do... I've only had it for 2 days so im hoping in another 2-3 days it will calm down so i can feed it.

So im just wondering if this is normal or if i should do something?

It's totally normal. The snake sees this large 'predator' and is reacting to it. Using it's defenses to scare you away. Since it's recently bought, just don't handle it at all and try feeding the snake in a 3 or 4 days. Don't worry about handling the snake until after it's first meal, and it's been digested.

Once that is done, then you have to get in there and pick up the snake. It's a kingsnake so you're going to get the tail shake (it's imitating a rattlesnake) and most likely once you pick it up it's going to goto the washroom all over you. Still hold the snake, even take a little nip on the fingers if it tries. Keep it out for about 10 minutes if possible. Do this daily (except while it's digesting) and increase the times gradually. The snake should calm down.
