Hellow all. I wanted to say would a aspen be a good cage substrat for a savannah monitor because he is on news paper.

I've stated before but I'll say it at the start of this post too, I am NOT a monitor expert. From reading other posts on this site from a very knowledgable person, you need a BURROWING substrate that can hold moisture AND hold a tunnel. Aspen won't cut it. You need dirt.

Dirt mixed with sand is a good substrate. Your Bosc needs humidity and this substrate will provide that as long as your enclosure isn't made of mesh.
Buy Ravi and Daniels book on Savs.
It's an excellent resource.

like krminaal said ur gonna need sumthing that will hold water..u can use woodchips aspen beeding,top soild with pete moss and sum sand or cypress mulch..make sure what ever u use u stay away from products with insecticides(spelt wrong)..if ur substrate doesnt hold mositure too well u can always mist the beeding a few times a day..
