I am presently using UTH on all my vivs with reahastats (sp) on all for now
I keep hearing about heat tape?? Is this something I can buy at some where like Home Depot? I plan on buying up a few more babies and building a rack.
Is this the way to go more cost effective then a uth under every one of these tanks for the young one?
Any thoughts either way?
Bill

Thoughts? Yes: take a minute and a half of your time and do a SIMPLE search on any of the search engines on "heat tape" then do a little research and reading on your own and THEN come and ask some question after you've got a basic understanding of the product.

If you dont want to answer the person, then don't, but there's no reason to be nasty.

I believe I did answer. What happened to the times when people did their own research on a product rather than taking the lazy route? Maybe I'm just old...

mykee is 100% right about using search! I didn't take offense!
I have searched and found some on here that sell it but no connectors.
I have also found it on google but seems like I need to buy way more that I would ever need? I also found that the how to's showed doing it with connectors like quick crimp on automotive connectors which really don't look safe????
So what I basicly wanted to know if it has any other uses? Can I buy smaller quantitys? Is there really a safe (fire standards wise) way to use it?
I do understand that I only need one thermostate which is great!
Just basicly looking to hear what experianced users have found using it?
I saw heat-flex is this a good brand?

Hello I can't be much help but I found this guy " Greg West of Cornels World" he builds custom tanks and on his site he has heat tape on there.

As for the proper wiring of heat tape, I have heard of soldering o-clips directly to the heat tape and have heard that it lasts forever without fault that way. I personally use the clips (not the plastic covers, they're crap) and have over 250 feet of heat tape currently running at my facility without ever having a problem myself. As for smaller amounts of heat tape, if you're only looking for a small amount, it woudl be foolhardy to pick it up from the States and have to pay stoopid shipping and duty fees. Send me a PM, I've always got some 4" sitting around for my next project. I'm in Ontario to shipping will be minimal.
