I am interested in getting a Savannah in the new year. But I have a few questions first.
1, I am building a custom cage, but is a large cage to
intimadating to a baby Sav? or should I put it in a small cage untill it grows a bit.
2, Where is a good place/reputable person to get one from.
I plan on building my enclosure 8 feet long and 4 feet wide, I guess 2 feet high will be good? I have the room so I wouldlike it to be as big as possible.
Do you think this size will be good fo one Savannah
Thanks for the advice and any suggestions
thats a great size for a cage mine is only 6x2 and i got about 18' of soil for him to dig around in but i plan on having him out and about in my room since i couldnt get it as big as i wanted.
if u got any pet stores around your area that sell reptiles specificaly and you know they treat there animals well then i would try and get from them because most pet store sell wc and that is never a good thing. i got mine from a great reptile store and the ONLY reason why they where selling him was that they just got some mature ones in so they can bread them soon because they where just going to keep him for breading so they kept great care of him.
sorry i dont know to much about the size they should be in when they are small:(
(keep in mind mine is about 2 years old)

I dont like recommending pet stores, but there arent many CB savannahs around. You can try Ravi www.themonitorspot.com
he may have some.. Thats all i can recommend. If you goto a pet store, ask to see the monitor eat. If he has purky eyes (not sunken) and eats right away, chances are he's fine. Just provide him with adequate temperatures. Basking is very important.
For a baby sav, id say 6" or so would be good in a 20-33 gallon. (you dont want anything too large to begin, it will be hard for the animal to get food. Fill it half way up with some soil/cypress mix.(this has worked well for me) then as he grows, upgrade to the 6 foot tank.
Hope this helps.

2 feet high isn't high enough for a savannah. You'll need a minimum of 18 inches of dirt in there and that will only leave 6 inches of breathing room. You're gonna need to go to at least 3 feet my friend.

I have new plans on making it about 3-4 feet tall as to allow a good 2-3 feet of dirt, and good breathing room
He will be one spoiled Savannah in his new cage.
