The average life of a ball python is around the 15 year mark. Closer to the 20 I believe. It's a long time pet!
Secondly, ball pythons are VERY secretative. It's a GOOD thing if it's in it's hide a lot. They are also nocturnal so your snake will come out in the evening and later when it's darker. Usually they come out to hunt, so it might be a sign that it's feeding time soon.
Another note about the hide, it doesn't have to be huge. A snake likes to feel secure in it's surroundings so it would like a snug fitting hide. This way it can feel the sides of it against all of it's body.
35 years plus. Oldest known ball python was 47.
If ball pythons only lived 15 years, there would be a lot of disappointed ball python owners out there....

Ok I'm off the mark. I apologize. I thought about my post afterwards and thought it was more closer to just around 20 - 25 years on average for ball pythons!
