Hi well iv been researching lots of information on growth and weight that my boas should be at, but am finding it hard to find info on the subject, but i have managed to find graphs showing rates of growth and weight.

Boa Constrictor Herpetoculture (http://home.att.net/~crinaustin/BoaHerpetoculture.htm#Growth)

here is the website if you with to view, but after looking at this information and wieghing and measuring my boas i have relised that they are well under size and wieght that they should be according to the graphs..i have no way of knowing if the information is correct or specific for either a BCI or BBC (i think my 2 are BCI's) but i also do not see any health problems they shed regulary, poop and are alert all the time. I had no idea about what size or weight they should have been at the age untill now..they are (2 and half years) but now i have found out that "Santana" is 795grams and is 1.17m ( I find this very hard to believe if the graphs are correct then it means that santana weights only 25% of what she should achally weigh) "Boa" is 970grams and is 1.04m.

"Boa"

possibly not being feed enough or big enough food? but that's probably not the problem since all animals grow at a different pace not all the same

They are small for their age yes. What are they currently being fed & how often. They should be being fed weekly & taking a couple small rats at a time based on the size of them in the pics. At 2.5 years they should be pushing 5 ft plus & around the same girth as your arms or bigger. As they are being grown up as pets & not as breeders their current size isn't affecting their health & all, but their growth is being stunted. Once their diet has been increased for a while they will go on a growth spurt. They appear to be recv. a basic maintenance diet, but should be on a growth diet as they are young & no where near fullgrown. Basically what you are feeding them now is just maintaining them but not allowing for any real growth to take place. Mark

A general rule of thumb for feeding Boids is once weekly 2-3 prey items the same girth or around 1.5 times the thickest girth of the snake. Mark
