I have a young blood python that will not eat. She is younger than a year and I have tried to feed it dead and alive mice. I dont know what to do? Could it be the temp in my tank or somethin...

wild caught or even f1 bloods can be a little more difficult, do you know the history on your snake, bloods typically require pretty acurate temp and humidity conditions but it has been recorded that later generations of bloods in captivity for several generations are alot less finicky when it comes to percision, check your heat and humidity conditions, from what i have heard the humidity issue is most important, good luck and keep us posted

Unfortunately there is a lot of misinformation surrounding blood pythons. One biggee is temperature, most new keepers believe that well it's a tropical snake so i better keep it really warm... and in the end the snake is not happy. Bloods actually have a very slow metabolism and require less heat than say a ball python to digest their food. I keep my bloods in the same room as the rest of the collection with an ambiant temperature of approximately eighty degrees farenheit with no supplemental heat and they are doing great...eating, pooping, breeding and producing healthy babies. How old is the snake, has it eaten yet at all, and has it had it's first shed yet? If your answer is yes to these questions then I would bet it's a temperature or stress issue. The more info you can give us the more we can help. A really good site for blood pythons is VPI.com they have some unreal animals and know what they're doing when it comes to bloods.

She is very young.. I think around a couple of months, and she has not ate anything since I got a month ago. I tried dead and alive mice and nothing seems to work. I am going to get another temp scale cuz i believe mine is broken. thanks for some help.

ok... so the temp in my cage is 88.7 in the hot area and in the cooler side its 80.4. I have the shelter for the snake on the cooler side of the tank. i let her sit in it for a week before i tried to feed it again and still nothing..... wat should i do

Hatchlings and juveniles don't really need a hot end. An overall temperature throughout the cage should be around 82*F.

Also, how big is the cage?

Try feeding live to start with, youngsters, I find, much prefer live when they are younger.

Since when? All snakes need to be able to thermoregulate.

I'm not saying all snakes, but Bloods in particular, as juveniles don't require a Basking Site as such, an all round gradient of 82*F will provide optimum feeding.

I myself use this method with 100% feeders across the board (26 Blood and Short-Tails)

It is also used by VPI and Pro-Exotics.
