Is it possible to stunt the growth of a Burmese Python/Albino Burmese Python? I heard they just grow no matter what but i was wondering if you can stunt their growth. Any help is greatly appreciated. thank you

Im not sure if you can stunt their growth in anyway.. You can feed them only enough to get by..kinda slows it down. But then again if you dont want a "Big" snake dont buy one.

I hear that if you can get them smoking and drinking, that will stunt their growth.

Sure, just stop feeding it anything but an adult mouse once a month. It may grow at first but it won't go that far. You might aswell not give it a hot spot really either. You know, to slow down the metabolism.
This probably sounds really rude but honestly, if you can't house a large snake avoid it. What makes someone think that their own personal pleasure should come at the cost of an animal's welfare? Besides, to my knowledge, dwarf burms are on the market. Someone can correct me of that though.

As stated you can stunt a Burmese Pythons growth, by withholding food. However the practice is bad for the snake, usually causing health issues, and premature death....anyone who practices stunting isn't really a keeper. If you don't want a big snake, don't get a big snake...with the thousands of species available there should be no issues finding a snake that suits all your needs.
And yes Aaron...there are dwarfs on the market now, though usually they are too expensive for most people to consider.
Sorry for the rant, that subject tends to tweek my nerves a little.

If I wasn't such a lady I'd be spewing colorful metaphors at you (RBT0608) right now. I know you're asking a simple question and I may be way off base but most people don't ask a question like that without the intent of possably performing the cruel act themselves. Yes it's possible to stunt a burm or any reptiles growth. As others have stated it's all about controlling the animals food and heat. But what that poor creature could suffer internally /medically is cruel and inhumane. I have taken in countless rescue reptiles who had their growth stunted and they always died at a young age. Most had liver failure, infections, and other problems. Regardless of vet intervention 98% of them died. I've taken in Boas that at four years old and were only two foot. Five year old Retics that are only five foot, and one that sticks out was a poor little normal Burm male that at six years old was barely three foot long. That poor snake died of full system failure because his body couldn't handle eating a full size mouse.
Would you really want to be cause of something like that????????
But yeah. You can stunt their growth.

I won't tell you exactly what was said here at the house after reading this it would probably get me banned. Now that I have that out of the way.
There are a couple things you can do to stunt the growth of a snake, have it stuffed, put it in the freezer, these are just a couple things that would be better for the snake then what you are asking about doing.
While we all may seem a little harsh about this subject. It is because most of us have large pythons and got them for their natural beauty knowing what was involved with keeping larger boids. We have also gotten in sick snakes that were not fed or maintained properly. Either due to the ignorance of the keeper or because (insert pet store here) told them that the baby burm they got will only grow as big as its enclosure or it won't grow as much if you don't feed it. Which in the end is a line of crap they feed people to make a sale.
why did u buy a big snake if you didnt want one dont try to stunt the growth give it to somebody that can handle it

Well at least we have figured out there are two things you can't successfully stunt. The growth of a snake or Brad and Aaron's posting.

Hey! It's a healthy competition...sort of deal... SOMEONE needs to keep the boards active and going. It's difficult to have a conversation with yourself. :D

well i have held off as long as possible on this thread.
as everyone has said if you can't keep a giant don't buy a burm.
stunting a burms growth by not feeding or housing the snake properly is insane it not only would cause serious health issues but you will have a pissed off snake that is hungry all the time. I really get pissed off when i see threads with this question it just really bothers me because when the snake gets sick or gets a bad attitude the owner throws an ad in the newspaper or the internet or dumps the snake on the doorstep of some pet shop. people who e-mail me and ask how big the burm they want to buy will get get told they really don't need the burm because if you have to ask how big they will get it means you have not done your homework and are not ready to own a burm. just my thoughts.

To the original poster, we won't hang you if you come back and comment on this thread! Even though you've started up a topic that hits people's nerves we won't kill you! We just all don't want to see a snake suffer.

Yea I dont understand why anyone would even want a burm, if they wanted a small snake..It really just doesn't make sense. LoL

They're really pretty. Some of those patterns are so well defined that it looks like they were stenciled on.
After I win the powerball, I am TOTALLY getting myself a couple.
My one and only Retic was a rescue who'd been stunted. He was horribly precarious to manage, seemed to start to thrive and even grew, but lasted just under a year. The necropsy revealed extensive and irreversible organ damage. The vets who worked with him couldn't believe he hung on as long as he did.
Despite the anxiety involved in trying to keep him going, he was one of the neatest snakes I've ever kept. Great personality.
I want in ... So if I feed my kids only a small meal once a week will they stay small?? Ya know like midgets or somethin!! LOL!!

I've always had this theory about infants and bicycle helmets but people get all offended when I ask if they think their head will wind up with bumps on it and stuff.
