I joined this web site because I need help. I am not a snake
aficionado, but I thought that those of you that are could help. One of the ladies at work has a snake in her car. It's about 12" long and is black (not much of a description). Is there any easy way to find this snake and get it out of her vehicle?

We live in Alabama and it's been very hot and dry, however it is raining today. We also found some mouse droppings on the floor so maybe it was going after a mouse.

We have tried putting those sticky things you catch mice, but it didn't work. We want to catch it so it can be released back into the woods.

Please - does anyone have any suggestions?:bouncy:

Don't use the sticky traps. Always kill something in a manner that you would want to die yourself. Being stuck to a piece of cardboard and starving to death is no way to die.

If the snake is outside (engine compartment, etc), leave the car alone, if you can, for a couple of days. If it is inside the car, I would suggest leaving the car in a garage and leaving the doors open for a couple of days.

Other than that, I have no ideas. You sometimes have to figure that the snake made it's own choices and one of them was a bad one. :(

How did it get in the car? If it got in on it's own accord....it'll probably leave on it's own as well...if it hasn't already.

Problem with snakes is there isn't anything really made to trap it, pretty much just a stroke of luck if you happen to grab it when you see it. Short of tearing apart the entire inside of the car, that is.

Biggest thing is, being you are located in Alabama make sure it isn't venomous before you go grabbing for it.....would hate to see you get hurt over something like that.

Why don't you just call animal control?

Thanks to all of you that posted replies. I did learn some things as well as made aware that there are more humane ways to get rid of an unwanted creature. :freakedout:

As it turns out it was what they call a Gopher rat, not a snake. The car was towed to the dealer and they are repairing all of the things it damaged.

sSNAKESs was a new and rewarding experince for me - Thankssssssss!

Did she mistake its tail for a snake?

That's exactly what she did and you knew my friend, Diane, she gets hysterical over a little lizard - you can imagine how she was when she thought it was a snake. Thanks for the picture!

sounds like you could have used a snake to get the rat.

 this was great, we have been having a mouse problem as of late . a couple of weeks ago my husband was in the bathroom and he says snake. i went in there and my first comment was it isnt mine--took me a minute to realize we needed to get it back outside. i actually ran it down under my husbands dresser and used the methods ive seen on animal planet to catch it . im not afraid of snakes anymore. not since having my own. i took it across the street into some woods and released it. still wonder about where he came in at.:freakedout:

We had a wild time this year with snakes in our school. I keep as many as I can get in my classroom and there are a few that are scared they might get loose, but all agree that it is good for the kids. Anyways, I bet I caught 10 snakes in or around the school this year. Two years ago I took a praire rattler off the front stoop to the kindergarten room.

Animal control would do exactly what we've been saying. Set the car out, leave the doors open, etc. And then probably set one of those disgraceful traps.

I have no faith in animal control. Their mode is to let nature take care of itself. Try bringing in a wounded crow, it'll be put down rather than rehabilitated (that's first-hand experience talking).
