I have a 7 foot Red-Tail that I rescued about a week ago. Her eating habits are above average and she seems to have no problems with her jaws when trying to swallow prey, but Ive noticed that when shes not eating, she sits with her head kind of cocked and sideways. When I went to examine her, I noticed that her top teeth get stuck in the bottom of her jaw and she has trouble opening that side of her mouth sometimes... The top (on the side, NOT in the front) teeth get wedged deep in the bottom of her jaw, its sometimes its very hard to pull them out. Has anyone ever heard of this? What can I do to stop it from happening? As I said before, it doesnt seem to affect her eating and/or striking ability, but they clearly get stuck frequently. Should I be worried? Are they really even getting stuck? Ive been a snake owner for many years and Ive never seen this happen. Its clearly noticeable when shes laying with her head flat. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

The only way to answer that is to have a vet take a look at her and maybe x-ray her jaw. She could have a break that's causing it or a deformity. It also could be loose teeth in the socket. Mouth rot in some forms can cause this also. Piercing her own jaw if not taken care of can cause infections and rot.
Two thumbs up for rescuing her!!!! But please have her jaw checked by a professional exotic (strictly reptile preferred) vet.

Good luck

Thanks for the advice. I went ahead and took her to the vet this morning. She checked out just fine, they think its just the way she sets her mouth, they gave her a dose of antibiotics and some sub-q fluids. So her mouth isnt a problem after all. Thanks.
