Hi! I got my first snake yesterday. The store said it would be a good beginners snake. Anyway, I got him home and set up his vivarium and left him in there for his one day "getting used to" the house time. And then this morning I got him out and was handling him, accept he was striking and trying to bite my arm, I had a jumper on so I couldn't feel it. I know when hes about to strike as he gets into his S shape, is there anyway to get him out of this? He is 8 months old, so he is still a baby.

Baby Antaresia have been known to be on the nippy side, but they are wonderful beginner snakes. The only way to get him out of being nippy is to keep on handling him. Once they mature, most of them get out of that phase.

Cool now I know he won't be like that forever. He is a nippy little bugger but also cute at the same time. Love him. :P

Edit: Also, he has always bitten my jumper. What would it feel like to be bitten by a 8 month old Children's Python? Like a nip or a bit more?

I highly doubt you'll even feel it. I was bit by my full grown spotted python and it felt like a little pinch.

You may get a tiny bit of blood if it gets ya good. Ever play with a kitten? You have already been hurt far worse then ;) When it bites is it a quick strike & release? If so it is likely a defensive bite because it feels threatened. If it bites & hangs on or tries to coil it is a food response bite. These are the ones that suck becasue you have to be careful making it let go as to not hurt it while it tries to eat you. As silly as that may sound some baby snakes (& others too) will try to eat you LOL over time all of this will change. The snake will come to realize you are not a threat or food LOL Mark

Lol it is just a quick strike & release. He probably thinks he is the big boss.

Ok so I go him out and wrapped around my hand and he hasn't tried biting for like 5 minutes.
