building enclosure

how would i go about building an enclosure for a 3 foot columbian boa?
what type of wood,dimensions ect. Can you give me some of your ideas.
Or maybe post some pics of your homemade enclosures so i can get an idea.

Well thats all up to U. Do u have the space 4 a large enclosure? Would u be willing to give the snake some climbing room? I made mine.Its a custom acrylic enclosure. Its 3ft L x 1.5ft D x 3ft H . She absolutely loves the climbing availability. I heat treated branches thick and thin , added some vines and plastic plants. The substrate i use is called cypress mulch that i also heat treat 4 pests. Then i set up an upper basking area in the branches , heated to bout 92-95 degrees. A kane heat mat [ brad pointed these to me :)] placed at the same side as the heat light. [ thermal-gradient ] I give her a coconut hide on both sides, [ so she doent have to choose between being warm or out of sight.On both sides i made custom acrylic doors that swing open, with latch locks.The top of the encloser is part screen part acrylic, to help keep heat and humidity in.Then around the bottom and top i drilled air holes all around the cage. [ putting them in a straight line, makes it look professional] A nice large ceramic water dish at the cooler end of the cage. On the back wall closer to the top, i put two big rectangle shape cork boards.[velcroed in place] this aids in the dryer seasons when i need to get the humidity up. I just spray mist on them and the substrate and the absorb it and then release it over a long period of time. the humidity and ambient thermometors are located at the bottom of the cage closer to the middle. And last but not least the spot-probe thermometor is wrapped around one of the branches in the basking area.

the cork board also helps those snakes that like to drink speckles of water of there surroundings. Mine does occasionally.:yes:

plywood,hardwood like oak,cabinet grade plywood 24 bux a sheet for 3/4 at home depot. U could use melamine,any kind of wood just as long as its treated with polyurathane or some type of water sealent. I wouldnt use cedar as it is well known to cause skin irratation.

Building a frame of a cage with 2x2's and the sides and everything with 3/8 ply wood is plenty. And its alot cheaper that 3/4. Look on here under enclosures and look at the cage i built. Give ya an idea.
