I keep a few other reptiles as well as amphibians and fish. One thing that I noticed and was wondering about is the extent of hybridization among captive bred snakes. Particularly with amphibians such as dart frogs, but even with many fish breeders, hybridizing is frowned upon. Thats not to say that different morphs arent often developed ( especially with fish and some frogs ) but they are usually a mutant within a morph. With many reptiles, but especially snakes, I have found that there is little acceptance of this rule and therefore you find specimens from different populations being bred, as well as their offspring, to produce all kinds of unnatural hybrids. This also dilutes the original stock as the generations go on. I was wondering why this is an accepted practice among snake keepers/breeders when it is so widely frowned upon in much of the rest of the herp hobby.

You can get into some huge discussions about Hybrids when it comes to snakes. LOL

There aren't many people that are in between on the subject that's for sure, most are either strongly for....or....strongly against.

I think for the most part people try to stay away from it though, though there has been a rising interest in it over the years.

That's a touchy subject. I've witnessed quite a few long debates over it. Usually it gets a little heated. I can't answer your question though. Everyone has their personal stance on it. Maybe it's because the keeping of snakes has more of a "following",so to speak, than the rest of the herp world?

Most definitely frowned upon in the dart hobby. I own darts myself. But since you've already got pretty much every colored dart you can think of its not necessary to hybridize.
