View Full Version : egg incubation
anyone know why an otherwise perfectly healthy looking egg would shrink and die right when it should be hatching? Lately I have maybe a 60% healthy hatchling rate. I use to have 100%. this last egg was sweating and I thought for sure it would be hatched by morning, but it has shrunk and by experience I can be sure it has died. Not that I need anymore, I have a dozen or so eggs at any given time and getting overwhelmed with the cute little boogers. My males and females are seperated, but I know from experience that the fertile eggs can keep coming for the next year. :Wow:

Hard to say for sure but the most common issues for eggs sporatically going bad are temperature fluctuation, and humidity issues.
I haven't ever had that issue before though (eggs going bad for no reason), so I won't be of much help on this one. LOL

the humidity might not be high enough or it could be to low
what do you use to incubate? maybe (if it has a thermometer and a hydrogemeter s.p.) there telling the wrong temp you should check temp and humidity levels.

Could be a variety of factors. These are from the Rhac book.
Incubation conditions.
Diet of the parents.
Genetic factors.
